Křenov offers several perspectives on its history: Baroque churches and a rectory ensemble shape the town’s history, while the Křenovské hradisko points to an early medieval fortified settlement. There are also hiking routes of varying lengths and with different starting points. This raises a clear question when planning your visit: would you like to discover architectural and art history, or make hiking the focus?
Chapel, Churches and Rectory
The Chapel of Saint Isidore was built in 1707 at the initiative of the local parish priest and patron Johann Benedikt Schindler. Its interior is richly decorated, with stucco featuring acanthus motifs and figurative wall paintings. Restoration of the sculptural and painted decorations was completed in 2015. The chapel thus brings together its history and the later restoration of its artworks.
A parish church dating from 1729 has been preserved in Křenov. The Baroque Church of St John the Baptist is a prominent landmark; its furnishings date from 1730. Another work from the Baroque period is the sculpture group depicting the Virgin Mary, St John the Baptist and St John of Nepomuk. It was created in 1727 and added to the list of cultural monuments in 1964.
The Baroque rectory is an architecturally valuable, two-storey rural building with a mansard roof. It was built on the village green and, together with the parish church, forms an important urban ensemble. A statue of the Immaculata, created before 1734, stands beside the rectory. The building, church and statue thus offer several specific points of reference for taking in the townscape.
Museum and Early Medieval Hradisko
The Fara Křenov Museum presents the life, culture and work of a clergyman in a small town, from the 18th century to the present day. The Křenovské hradisko extends across several municipalities, including Křenov. It is an early medieval fortified settlement on a low hill, with fortifications enclosing an area of about 20 hectares. The museum and hradisko thus represent distinctly different historical periods.
Hiking Routes with Different Starting Points
The hiking route from Křenov to Jevíčko is about 9.5 kilometres long and follows yellow trail markers. It passes along the Křenovské hradisko towards Mařín. The Sedmikráska nature trail adds an interactive quiz, which can be completed directly on a smartphone.
For routes ending in Křenov, two other distances offer a comparison: an approximately 13-kilometre hiking route runs from Moravská Třebová to Křenov, following red trail markers and passing Slídový vrch and Arnoštovský vrch. The approximately 14-kilometre route from Hřebeč to Křenov shares part of its course with cycle route 4029, before descending to Křenov. The routes differ both in their starting points and in the landmarks mentioned along the way.
A Landscape Feature to the Southwest
The Malonínský potok flows southwest of Křenov, and the constructed Obecní rybník lies along its course. This specific landscape feature complements the historic buildings and the routes described above.
