Discover Korouhev through three distinct themes: geological development, historic architecture, and activities in the hilly surroundings. The Geological Exhibition offers a look at the wider area around the municipality, while the church and historic farmstead provide examples of local and regional history. Hiking, running, and fishing add opportunities to spend time outdoors. Which of these perspectives matters most to you can shape your choice of stay.
Geology as a Theme in Its Own Right
The Korouhev Geological Exhibition is a permanent outdoor display of significant rocks and the geological development of the wider area around the municipality. It comprises ten large rock samples and illustrates a development spanning about 500 million years. This brings two scales together: the number of specific samples and a very long geological period. Those interested in the history of the Earth can consider this theme alongside Korouhev’s architectural history. Together, they convey both the scale of the exhibition and the time frame of its subject.
The Church and Regional Architectural History
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul is considered one of the oldest churches in the region; its origins are dated to around 1050. It acquired its present appearance in 1908. The dates mark two different milestones: the approximate time of its origins and a later stage in its design. Behind the main altar is a sanctuary, or a niche in the wall. This architectural detail adds a specific feature of the church interior to the historical context.
House No. 163 in Korouhev complements the church’s history with an example of regional farm architecture. It has been state-protected since 1963 and is an authentically preserved example of a courtyard-style log farmstead typical of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The year 1963 indicates its protected status, not when it was built. Whereas the church is notable for its age and present appearance, the house is defined by its preserved architectural form. Visitors can also see several originally preserved historic houses in Korouhev.
Hilly Landscape and Outdoor Activities
Korouhev lies in the valley of the Mlýnský potok, and the surrounding area is hilly. The highest peak near Korouhev is said to be Bezděk, at 690 m. The valley setting and the peak offer different perspectives: one describes the location of the village, while the other identifies an elevation point. This can help you decide whether to focus your stay more on local history or the landscape.
Leisure hiking is available in Korouhev. In addition, running route 4023 is designated for Korouhev. These are two different planning options: a general hiking opportunity and a named running route. If you plan to use the running route, check the route details before setting out.
Fishing is also possible in the Svratka River and in the Musil Pond in Lačnov, a settlement belonging to Korouhev. The river and pond offer a simple distinction to guide your planning. If you would like to fish, you can start by choosing which type of water appeals to you more.
