Jedlova combines a long, stretched-out settlement along the ZlatĂ˝ potok with cultural attractions and opportunities to enjoy nature. The church and gallery each add their own historical and artistic character; walks and ponds broaden the view of the surrounding area. You can choose cultural history, art or time in nature as the focus of your stay.

Settlement and Nature

The village stretches for six kilometres along the ZlatĂ˝ potok. This elongated layout makes the stream a useful landmark for finding your way around Jedlova. The natural surroundings are suitable for walks. The many ponds around the village also offer opportunities for swimming and walking. When planning, you can therefore choose between different kinds of time outdoors: paths through the landscape or a visit to a body of water. Conditions may vary from one pond to another. If you plan to swim in a particular pond, check the local conditions in advance.

Church and Local History

The Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary is an early Gothic building dating from the late 13th century. It has a bell tower and is protected as a cultural monument. Its date and early Gothic classification give the church a specific historical context. The church and bell tower are also listed as stops on a route through Jedlova. If you plan to follow this route, check the signs locally.

Art at Galerie Jedlova

Galerie Jedlova serves as an exhibition and creative space. It aims to present art from the second half of the 20th century as well as contemporary modern art. The gallery has hosted exhibitions in the run-up to auctions and solo exhibitions; musical performances have also taken place on its grounds. The gallery thus complements the medieval architecture with a different cultural focus. The current programme may change. If you are planning your visit around an exhibition or event, check in advance what is scheduled.

For a cultural focus, there is a clear distinction to consider: the church represents early Gothic architectural history, while the gallery represents art from the second half of the 20th century and the present day. When planning, you can focus on architecture or art without having to combine both interests into a fixed itinerary.

Balda and Its Spa History

Balda adds a historical spa dimension to the picture of the area. Its surviving historic buildings include the Chapel of the Virgin Mary and a hunting lodge; other former spa buildings have disappeared. The historic mineral baths of Balda, also known as Zlatá Studna, lie within the cadastral area of the municipality of Jedlova at an altitude of 654 metres. The former spa is no longer operating. This distinction is important: Balda is notable for its architectural and local history, not as a currently operating spa. The surviving buildings and the vanished spa buildings represent two different aspects of local history.
