Explore Nemcice through three specific themes: mill history, marked trails and viewpoints. The Brachtlův water mill represents the area’s technical heritage; the trails include a marked cycling route and several walking trails. Two hilltops offer their own elevations and vistas. You can plan your trip around the local features that interest you most.
Mills and Historic Buildings
The Brachtlův water mill, house number 7, is a protected cultural monument; it has been protected since April 3, 2024. The former water mill stands on a millrace fed by the Zlatý pásek stream. Some of its technical equipment, dating from the late 19th century to the 1940s, has been preserved. This building is notable both for its function as a mill and for its surviving technical equipment.
The history of milling extends beyond this one building: along the Zlatý pásek, a historic system of eight mills remains today; there used to be nine. This comparison shows how the system has changed and places the Brachtlův mill in a broader context.
Other buildings in Němčice include a chapel dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, dating from 1883. There is also a former wooden coaching inn with a shingle-covered mansard roof. Its roof shape and shingle covering give it a different architectural character from the chapel and the water mill. Near Končiny, a pilgrimage chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands beside a spring; a Stations of the Cross is located next to the chapel. These sites complement the area’s technical and architectural heritage with a religious dimension.
Marked Trails and Their Routes
For orientation, it helps to consider the cycling route and walking trails separately. Marked cycling route 4145 runs from Sloupnice through Vlčkov and Němčice (Člupek) to Svinná. Its number and the sequence of named places clearly define its route. A marked blue walking trail also runs through Němčice; another blue walking trail leads to the MANDLU hamlet. In the eastern part of Němčice, a marked green walking trail follows road III/35851 towards Přívrat. The color, location and direction distinguish these walking trail descriptions from one another.
Around Člupek, the surrounding area offers walks through forests and towards the Svinná Valley. The sources of the Němčický potok, also known as Zlatý pásek, are also located near Člupek. The forest, valley and source area offer a different landscape setting from the two named hilltops. This makes Člupek a topic in its own right for planning your trip, without combining the different trail routes into a single loop.
Viewpoints and Landscape
Kolouška Hill lies above Němčice at an elevation of 394 meters and offers a wide view across the Svitavy District. Zhořský kopec is 542 meters high; from there, the view stretches across the Litomyšlsko region as far as Vysoké Mýto. The two elevations differ by 148 meters. The described vistas also differ: Kolouška overlooks the Svitavy District, while Zhořský kopec offers views across Litomyšlsko as far as Vysoké Mýto. These details allow for a specific comparison without assuming a connection between the two hilltops or a particular route to them.
If you want to include cultural history, walks and views in your trip planning, Němčice offers several distinct options: the mill landscape along the Zlatý pásek, buildings with their own histories, marked routes, and the landscape around Člupek and on the hilltops. These themes give you a starting point for choosing your own priorities for your stay.
