Jarošov combines natural surroundings with local history and scenic views. Cikánka lies west of the village in forests made up mostly of pine; Toulovcova rozhledna stands on Jarošovský kopec. There are also two circular routes described in different ways and preserved fortification remains. When choosing a destination, you can consider whether you would rather focus on its setting in the landscape, a specific route, scenic views or historical traces.
Landscape and Walking Routes
Jarošov lies on the edge of the Toulovcovy Maštale Nature Reserve; the Maštale Nature Reserve also includes the cadastral area of Jarošov u Litomyšle. These descriptions highlight different spatial aspects: the location on the edge places Jarošov next to the protected area, while the other statement describes the inclusion of the cadastral area. West of Jarošov, the rock formation Cikánka lies in forests made up mostly of pine. This gives you two ways to understand the area’s landscape: through its location by the protected area and through a specific rock formation.
The two circular routes can be distinguished by their named points. The Maštalská stezka is a 30.5-kilometre circular route through Toulovcovy Maštale, Vranice and Nová Ves u Jarošova. The Vranice–Toulovcovy Maštale–Džberka–Vranice circular walk starts and ends in Vranice, a settlement in the western part of the cadastral area of Jarošov. Vranice appears in both route descriptions, but serves a different purpose in each: it is a place along the Maštalská stezka and the starting and finishing point of the other circular route. To help you choose, compare whether the stated distance and the three named stops, or the loop starting and ending in Vranice, provide a better guide for you.
Views from Jarošovský kopec
Toulovcova rozhledna stands on Jarošovský kopec at an elevation of 539 metres, between Jarošov u Litomyšle and Budislav in the Svitavy District. The 539 metres refers to the hill; the tower itself is 15 metres tall, has two viewing platforms and is reached by climbing 60 steps. This clearly distinguishes the elevation, the tower’s height and the climb.
In good visibility, the view takes in the surroundings of Pardubice and Hradec Králové, as well as the northern mountain belt on the Czech border. The view is a distinct factor to consider: in addition to the two platforms, the named distant sights may appeal to you, although good visibility is explicitly required to see them.
Historical Traces in Jarošov
At “Západní okraj obce” in Jarošov, there is a medieval castle site that has fallen into ruin, with fortification remains still preserved. The earthworks of a former fortress have also been preserved on the western edge of the village. These are distinct historical features: the castle site is medieval and is no longer standing, while the preserved earthworks provide the specific link to the former fortress. If you are interested in fortified sites, Jarošov offers both a medieval castle site and evidence of a former fortress.
