Strážná lies at an altitude of about 600 metres on the border between the Orlické Mountains and the Zábřežská vrchovina. Lázek, with its observation tower, defines the local landscape; there are also extensive forests, cycling routes and historic buildings. Those looking for a holiday apartment in Strážná can tailor their stay to their own interests: views, cycling, mushroom picking or local history.
Views and forests
Lázek and its observation tower are a distinctive landmark of Strážná. From the tower, the view extends east to the Zábřežská vrchovina and the Jeseníky Mountains, and west as far as the town of Lanškroun. The views therefore lead to different destinations: two mountain landscapes lie within sight to the east, and a named town to the west.
The extensive forests around Strážná are suitable for mushroom picking. This offers a different way to experience the landscape than the long-distance views from the observation tower: here, the forest surroundings themselves are the focus. This makes for a clear distinction when choosing an outing: enjoying the view or picking mushrooms in the forest.
Cycling routes with different formats
The Strážná–Hoštejn–Cotkytle–Lázek–Strážná cycle loop returns to its starting point. It is 30.5 kilometres long and has an elevation gain of 394 metres. Distance and elevation gain describe two different aspects of the route and together provide a more concrete basis for assessing it than the distance alone. Lázek also appears in the name of the loop.
The Štíty–Strážná–Lanškroun–Valteřice–Štíty cycling route also passes through Strážná. This gives you two different route formats: the first is a loop starting and ending in Strážná, while the second passes through the village and names other places along the route. Strážná is also part of cycling routes for more experienced cyclists. This is an additional indication of its appeal to cyclists and can be considered separately from the specific distance and elevation figures for the loop.
Natural features and local history
Two large lime trees grow in the centre of the village. The larger of the two has a trunk circumference of 720 centimetres and is estimated to be about 300 years old. The circumference is given precisely, while the age is an estimate. As a natural feature in the centre, the trees complement the forests around Strážná with a landmark right in the village.
The Church of Saint Isidore is the central landmark of Strážná and was completely rebuilt in 1921. A chapel is also one of the notable buildings. The village’s history can also be traced through the recorded dates: the first written mention of Strážná dates from 1350 and is connected with the founding of the Diocese of Litomyšl in 1344. Strážná was also mentioned as a parish village in 1350 and again in 1492.
A paratrooper memorial is also among the listed sights: the municipal Rural Renewal Programme for 2024 includes it in this category. Together with the church and chapel, it adds a memorial to the historical points of interest in the village.
