Vraclav can be explored through several historical highlights: the Baroque complex showcases art and local history, the Hradisko represents a much earlier period, and spiritual trail C passes through Vraclav. This gives you a clear choice when planning your trip: visits to the Baroque complex, archaeological traces or a route of just under 20 kilometres. The different periods make it easy to plan cultural themes and the route as separate highlights.
Baroque Complex: Church, Sculptures and History
The Pilgrimage Church of St Nicholas is a Baroque cultural monument dating from 1724 to 1726 and the dominant building in the Baroque complex. Visitors can admire a unique collection of Baroque sculptures inside the church. The Baroque complex also features an exhibition of polychrome Baroque wooden sculptures. Another exhibition is devoted to Vraclav’s rich history; visitors can also tour the hermit’s dwelling. The themes range from Baroque architecture and sculpture to local history and the hermitage.
Fráterka and the Hermit’s Story
The Fráterka is a wooden hermitage dating from 1692. It stands on the slope between the former spa building and the church. The hermit collected and dried herbs there—a former activity that gives the place a tangible historical dimension. At the well on the main street, you can draw water using the hermit’s jug. This connects the history of the hermitage with a practical landmark in Vraclav.
Hradisko and Early History
The Vraclav Hradisko is a prehistoric and early medieval hillfort. As late as the first half of the 13th century, it served as an administrative centre. Remains of a defensive rampart are visible there, providing a physical trace of early history. Vraclav developed in the outer bailey of the Přemyslid wooden castle of Vratislav, which protected the so-called Trstenická stezka route. The Hradisko offers a different historical focus from the Baroque church art: here, the hillfort, defensive remains and earlier administrative role take centre stage.
A Monument and Two Dates
A monument in Vraclav dates from 1908 and commemorates the murder of leading members of the Vršovci dynasty in 1108. The dates have different roles: 1908 is the date of the monument, while 1108 is the date of the event it commemorates.
Spiritual Trail C
Spiritual trail C runs from Vysoké Mýto through Vraclav and back to Vysoké Mýto. It is just under 20 kilometres long and includes nine sandstone plaques. The distance gives the tour a different character from the individual visits to the Baroque complex. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose between two distinct highlights: the complex’s concentrated cultural themes and a route connecting Vysoké Mýto with Vraclav.
