Kraliky can be explored through several distinct themes: the history of the region, the military and national defence, customs, pilgrimage and nature. This lets you tailor your stay to your interests rather than treating every place as a similar stop. The museums address different historical topics; the pilgrimage route combines architecture with a steep climb, while the region’s natural attractions offer another focus.
Museums and different historical themes
At the Kraliky Municipal Museum, exhibits document the history of the Králicko region. A special permanent exhibition at the museum, “AntonĂn Honzák’s Mechanical Nativity Scene”, is located at VelkĂ© námÄ›stĂ. It began operating on December 30, 2025, and is intended to operate permanently throughout the year. Since access arrangements may change, it is advisable to check them before your visit.
Also at VelkĂ© námÄ›stĂ, the East Bohemian Customs Museum is dedicated to the history of customs. Its permanent exhibition opened on September 19, 2018, is permanently installed and open to the public. Check the current opening arrangements before your visit. What the two exhibitions have in common is their location; their subjects differ: one is about a mechanical nativity scene and regional history, the other about customs.
The Kraliky Military Museum offers a different historical focus. It presents the history of the Czechoslovak Army from its founding to the present day. An exhibition of military history that is open year-round covers the army and national defence; the museum also includes a demonstration area for heavy equipment and elements of living history. Year-round access applies to the exhibition. Since operating arrangements may change, check them before your visit.
Fortress and pilgrimage history
The artillery fortress Dělostřelecká tvrz Hůrka is also known by the names Berghöhe, Horka, Hofeberg and Výšina. It was built on Výšina Hill, at an elevation of 666 metres, on the northern edge of Kraliky. Its entrance area is 800 metres from the fountain in the town centre. These details locate the site in relation to the town centre; they describe the position of the entrance area.
Another focus is the ascent to Hora Matky BoĹľĂ. The pilgrimage site lies at an elevation of 760 metres above Kraliky and is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the Diocese of Hradec KrálovĂ©. The pilgrimage Way of the Cross begins on the edge of town and leads steeply uphill through a lime-tree avenue to Hora Matky BoĹľĂ. The avenue includes eight hexagonal Baroque chapels. If you plan to take this route, allow for the steep climb as a distinct part of your visit.
The construction history of the pilgrimage complex also gives the site a clear historical context: construction began in 1696, and the church was consecrated on August 21, 1700. Separate from this is the Church of St Michael the Archangel in Kraliky, which is a protected cultural monument. Together, the two places illustrate different connections to religious and architectural history, without being part of a single complex.
Nature in the surrounding region
The KrálickĂ˝ SněžnĂk National Nature Reserve, in the region surrounding Kraliky, offers another focus. It lies in the Pardubice and Olomouc regions and includes KrálickĂ˝ SněžnĂk Mountain as well as a small part of the western ridge of MalĂ˝ SněžnĂk. The landscape described therefore extends beyond a single town attraction.
The KrálickĂ˝ SněžnĂk area has numerous hiking and cycling trails: the range includes both challenging routes and trips suitable for families and children. This offers a different focus from museums or pilgrimage history. When deciding what to do, it is therefore helpful to first consider whether you are most interested in regional history, the military, pilgrimage or nature. These themes offer different ways to shape a stay in Kraliky.
