A stream, wooded valleys and a technical monument offer different ways to discover Písečná. When planning your stay, you can focus on hiking, cycling routes or cultural history—and choose from the available activities accordingly.

Exploring the landscape and village on foot

The local hiking route “Pěší trasa” runs between the cadastral boundaries of Písečná and includes twelve stops. Several tourist routes also pass through the village. Trail conditions may vary, so it is a good idea to check the current situation before setting out.

The Potočnice stream flows through the entire village. The five-hectare Šuškovský pond lies in a wooded valley; on the way there is a rest area with a drinking-water spring and an Indian totem. As facilities at the site may change, take this into account when planning.

If you would like to include a viewpoint in your hiking plans, head to the Kozinec ridge: from there, the view extends to Žampach and the panorama of the Orlické Mountains. Písečná also has a substantial stock of mature vegetation that has been preserved. Several notable trees have been added to the state list of protected trees.

Another geological feature is located near Šušek: the rock formation known as “Babizna,” of Permian origin, lies in a wooded valley. This gives you several different landscape features to explore during your stay: a stream, pond and rest area, a viewpoint on the ridge, and a named rock formation.

Cycling routes, a railway route and the swimming season

For a cycling connection, the shared Valdštejn–Šušek cycle and pedestrian path is described. It is 1,185 metres long and connects Písečná with Hnátnice. The Valdštejn–Šušek cycle route also connects to the Letohrad–Ústí nad Orlicí cycle route and ends at the dam of Šušek pond.

A published hiking route runs from Dolní Dobrouč railway station through Písečná to Žamberk railway station. If you would like to use this connection for your journey or tour, check train services and route markers separately. This lets you plan the train journey independently, without conflating it with information about local walking or cycling routes.

Koupaliště Písečná may also be a factor when choosing the focus of your stay: in the 2026 season, its capacity was 300 people. It may differ in later seasons.

The mill and architectural history

The present-day rectory in Písečná was built by the Jesuits in 1726. A Baroque statue dating from 1717 stands by the church. Together with the protected trees, these architectural and cultural monuments offer several specific points of reference for the village’s history.

The mill, house no. 35, is a particularly detailed example of technical history. Its group of buildings, including the technical equipment, was designated a cultural monument on 26 October 2004. The mill houses a Francis turbine dating from 1926 and two sets of millstones. The listed equipment also includes peeling machines, cleaning machines and a grist mill.

Visits to the mill must be arranged in advance with its owner, Hana Maárová. If you would like to include the mill in your stay, plan for this prior arrangement. The requirement to make an appointment is essential when planning your visit.
