The architectural history of Dolní Dobrouč can be traced through its different periods: the Church of St. Nicholas dates from the 19th century, while the Cemetery Chapel of St. Joseph preserves part of a 15th-century Gothic church. Other highlights include the Baroque Church of St. John the Baptist in the district of Horní Dobrouč and Lanšperk Castle. If you would like to combine culture with outdoor activity, the hiking route from Lanšperk to Dolní Dobrouč is another specific option.

Churches and Chapels

The Church of St. Nicholas was built in 1828–1829 in the Empire style. It can be visited at any time of day through an entrance separated from the nave by a decorative grille. Check any notices posted during your visit.

Horákova Chapel is a pilgrimage site at the edge of the forest above Dolní Dobrouč. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help. The chapel is therefore defined by both its location above the town and its religious dedication.

The Cemetery Chapel of St. Joseph preserves the presbytery of a former 15th-century Gothic church. The presbytery, or choir area, is the surviving part of an older church building. St. Joseph’s is thus notable for its preserved architectural fabric, while the Church of St. Nicholas is described by its construction date and style.

The Baroque Church of St. John the Baptist, dating from 1770, stands in the district of Horní Dobrouč in Dolní Dobrouč. It was built on the site of an earlier wooden church mentioned in 1677. The dates refer to different things: 1770 dates the Baroque building, while 1677 is when the wooden church was mentioned. The 15th century date associated with St. Joseph’s likewise refers to the former Gothic church, whose presbytery has been preserved.

Lanšperk Castle and Hiking Route

Lanšperk Castle was built in the second half of the 13th century. Today, part of the curtain wall and the cellars of the palas adjoining this wall have survived. The palas is a castle’s main building; here, its cellars are among the surviving architectural fabric.

The hiking route from Lanšperk to Dolní Dobrouč follows green, blue and red trail markings. It passes along forest paths and then descends to Dolní Dobrouč. The colored markings and the subsequent descent are the route’s specific navigational features. Check the local signs before setting out.

Tennis and Golf

If tennis is one of your interests, the tennis facility in Dolní Dobrouč has three tennis courts and a practice wall. The practice wall offers an additional way to train alongside the courts.

Golf Dobrouč is a natural, fully irrigated golf course on picturesque hills in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains. Alongside architectural history and hiking, tennis and golf offer different sporting options.
