The Bošínská obora borders Bošín, while the “Choceňská naučná stezka” nature trail passes through the village. These two connections give a trip to Bošín clear points of interest: a protected landscape and a nature trail whose circular route is divided into two distances. There is also the Chapel of St Filoména, dating from 1854. Another cultural monument, the stone Cyrilometodějský reconciliation cross, lies about 50 metres beyond the marked village boundary. If you are considering Bošín as a place to stay, you can take nature, the route and both ecclesiastical and stone cultural heritage into account when making your choice.

Bošínská obora: Landscape and Nature Conservation

Bošínská obora includes meadows in the former game reserve and pheasantry, prominent solitary trees, park-like landscaping and an artificial pond. The meadows, individual trees and pond combine open landscape features with the park-like design. The Bošínská obora nature reserve covers 36.7811 hectares and was first designated on 1 May 1995. It protects near-natural floodplain forest stands with impressive old trees. Several protected bird, beetle and plant species occur in the obora. Designed landscape features thus sit alongside the protection of near-natural floodplain forest stands.

Walking Options on the Choceňská naučná stezka

The “Choceňská naučná stezka” nature trail passes through Bošín. Its 35-kilometre circular route is divided into two loops of 16 and 19 kilometres. A shortcut leads from Kostelecké Horky through Bošín to Choceň. The different route details are useful for planning: the 16- and 19-kilometre distances refer to the two loops of the 35-kilometre circular route, while the shortcut offers an alternative route. This makes it possible to choose the planned walking distance based on specific route lengths. If you plan to include a loop in your stay, match its length to the time you have set aside for it.

The Chapel and Stone Cultural Heritage

The Chapel of St Filoména in Bošín dates from 1854. It is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish – the Choceň deanery. The chapel also contains an organ and an altarpiece of St Filoména; both are protected as immovable cultural monuments. The chapel’s ecclesiastical heritage is therefore reflected both in its affiliation and in its protected furnishings.

The Cyrilometodějský reconciliation cross is also protected as an immovable cultural monument. The roughly hewn sandstone cross is about one metre high, bears an engraved Cyrilometodějský cross and has a broken-off left arm. Unlike the chapel, it is not in Bošín but about 50 metres beyond the marked village boundary. It stands at the edge of a belt of trees along the road from Bošín to Běstovice. This location helps you include the chapel and reconciliation cross as two separate cultural monuments in your plans.

Getting There and Parking

Bošín has a bus stop. Parking is limited: in the village centre, you can park on a paved area in front of the grocery store; another option is by the Chapel of St Filoména. If you are travelling by car, take this limited choice into account when planning. If you are travelling by bus, it is worth checking the timetable for your travel day.
