The nature trail in Srch has ten stops about life in the forest; the Baroch Nature Reserve is also nearby. The Pernštýnská waterworks reveal a different side of the town: the underground waterworks were built in 1515. Nature, landscape and the history of technology therefore offer distinct themes to explore.

Nature along the trail and at Baroch

Naučná stezka Srch is an engaging educational trail that provides information about life in the forest. It has ten stops with information boards and interactive features; combining information with hands-on activities gives the trail a clear educational focus. The starting point is behind the football pitch in Srch. Check the trail entrance and the current state of the stops on site. Those who like to follow an informative theme while walking will find forest life running through the trail.

The Baroch Nature Reserve is nearby and makes a good extension to an outing from Srch. It is an important ornithological landscape with grazing areas for wild horses and buffalo. The reserve covers areas in the cadastral districts of Srch and Hrobice. While the trail focuses on life in the forest, Baroch centres on birdlife and grazing areas. Visiting conditions may depend on the weather, so take this into account when planning.

A waterworks with a specific purpose

The Pernštýnská waterworks is an underground waterworks dating from 1515. It was built under William II of Pernstein and served as a water reservoir supplying the fountain in Pardubice town square and Pardubice Castle. The complex therefore illustrates not only a historical building style but also a specific role in water supply. In Srch, it is listed as an immovable cultural monument under Czech registration number 51001/6-6193.

Events in different formats

The traditional fishing competition “O stříbrný háček” was held for the 19th time at Vraťák in Srch on 14 June 2025. The traditional event “Příjezd Martina na bílém koni” on 8 November 2025 featured a lantern procession, as well as songs and poems performed by children. A week later, on 15 November, the traditional “Strašidelná stezka” offered a mysterious maze for younger children and a forest trail for older children and adults. The programmes differed, as did the occasions. If you are planning a trip around an event, check the dates for your travel period.

On 26 April 2026, a traditional fishing course for children with disabilities took place at Vraťák pond. Unlike the fishing competition, this was a course for a specifically stated participant group.

The pond: fishing and amphibians

A special permit is required for fishing at Rybník Olšina (Vraťák). An overview updated in 2021 notes this requirement; since regulations may change, check the current rules before fishing. An event date and a permit for fishing independently are separate planning considerations.

Rybník Olšina (Vraťák) is also a habitat for several amphibian species, particularly the marsh frog and the green toad. Alongside fishing-related events, its wildlife offers another perspective on the pond.
