Jankovice can be explored through its geographical connections and local history: the village lies southwest of Přelouč, and historical references range from traditional local motifs to a miller mentioned in 1494. For planning your trip, the location, course of the stream and local history offer different ways to explore the area; they are particularly useful if you would like to consider several aspects of a stay rather than a single reason for visiting.

Location and orientation

Jankovice lies about four kilometres southwest of Přelouč, below the Železné hory hills. Road III/33810 connects Přelouč, Jankovice and Litošice. The first detail describes Jankovice’s position relative to Přelouč, while the road connection also takes Litošice into account. This gives you both an approximate distance and direction, and a named connection between the places to help you find your way.

A stream rises above Seník, flows through Jankovice, continues past Kozašice and empties into the Elbe. The road and the stream provide different points of reference: the road connects the three places mentioned, while the watercourse forms a landscape corridor that runs through Jankovice and continues as far as the Elbe.

Local scenes and memories

The preserved postcard series “Pozdrav z Jankovic” shows the school, the village square and the hill towards Litožice, now Litošice. The three subjects are clearly distinct: a building, a square and a view of the surrounding landscape. The shift between these subjects connects the built environment with the landscape and conveys a multifaceted picture of the village.

To commemorate 28 October 1918, lime trees were planted in all three parts of Jankovice: Jankovice, Kozašice and Seník. The commemoration is thus spread across all three areas. Another dated landmark is the cross “KŘÍŽEK-JANKOVICE,” erected in 1878. The planting of the lime trees and the cross point to different forms of local remembrance: a shared commemoration of a historic date and a year of construction.

Mill and agriculture

The “Jankovický mlýn” mill is in the eastern part of Jankovice, on the right bank of the Senický potok stream. Its name, location in the village and position on the bank provide specific points of reference for this part of the village.

A miller named Jiřík in Jankovice is mentioned in the estate register for 1494. The local history therefore offers two different perspectives on the subject of milling: a named mill with a precise location and a historical reference to a miller.

Another aspect is the agricultural museum in Jankovice. It was founded by a father and son from the Štajner family and features old agricultural machinery. The museum shifts the focus from the mill to agricultural technology. If you plan to visit, check in advance whether a visit is possible and when.

Cycling route and pond in the village of Seník

The “Na Míčov přes Jankovice” cycling route passes through Jankovice. This adds a named route as a separate part of a trip alongside the local history topics. If you would like to combine culture and cycling, you can take the route into account when planning your visit.

A description from 2015 records that people could swim in the pond in Seník, fish there and rent boats. If you plan to take part in any of these activities, check in advance whether they are currently available. This helps distinguish those past activities from other local and historical features that have been passed down over time.
