You can explore Jedousov during your stay from two perspectives: historical traces with specific names and dates, and trails with clearly defined features. The historical references range from records dating to the 16th century to construction work on the chapel in 1890. For excursions, the focus is on a short trail and a route with a destination near Choltice.
History and Architectural Traces
A deed of sale from 1530 mentions Jedousov in connection with the knight Zikmund Anděl of Ronovec. Jedousov is documented in written records from 1545 in connection with the fortress and estate farm of Štěpánov. In 1706, Jedousov, together with the estates of Štěpánov, came under the rule of the Thun family. These dates span the 16th to the 18th century, with the deed of sale, the fortress and estate farm, and the change of rule marking different historical connections.
Architectural traces add to this timeline. Construction work was carried out on the Chapel of the Virgin Mary in 1890. The coat of arms of the former owners of the Choltice estate, the Thun-Hohenstein family, is still preserved on the main building of Horecký Dvůr.
Trails and Stops
The Formanská Trail runs along both marked cycling routes and hiking trails. From Jedousov, it continues along a red-marked hiking trail to the chateau grounds in Choltice. At eight special stops, visitors can learn about certified producers and their activities, and sample their products. If you are planning tastings, check the availability of individual producers before your trip.
The Knight Sekolík Eco Trail is about 700 metres long, passes through easy terrain and is free to access. Compared with the Formanská Trail, it offers different points to consider when planning: the Eco Trail has a defined length and terrain, while the Formanská Trail focuses on trail types, its destination and producer stops. This lets you choose based on the type of route and the stops that suit your stay.
Choltice and the Surrounding Area
In nearby Choltice, the chateau’s interior rooms house a permanent exhibition. Access may vary by season, so check current access arrangements before your visit. The chateau grounds are also the destination of the red-marked hiking trail from Jedousov. The trail and exhibition thus offer two related points of interest for planning an excursion, though seasonal access should be taken into account when visiting the chateau.
Further afield in the region around Jedousov, the wooden Barborka lookout tower stands southeast of Choltice on cycling route No. 4128. Its location on the cycling route provides another specific point of reference in the region. Together with the Formanská Trail, which leads from Jedousov to the chateau grounds in Choltice, it offers an additional reference for planning excursions beyond the village.
