Choteč lies on the left bank of the Ředický potok stream. Crosses and a bell tower add cultural and historical interest; prehistoric grave finds point to early settlement. Cycling routes and summer events add activities to these themes. If you are considering Choteč as a destination, you can first weigh up whether you are more interested in local history, cycling or seasonal events.

Crosses and Layers of History

The marble cross on a sandstone plinth was remodelled in the Gothic style in 1856. The Jesus Christ cross near the municipal office belongs to the courtyard of the Řehounkových family. It was restored in 2005 at the family’s expense. The dates refer to different events: for the marble cross, the focus is on the remodelling; for the Jesus Christ cross, it is the restoration.

Prehistoric graves found in the surroundings of Choteč point to settlement in prehistoric times. This archaeological perspective reaches further back than the dated work on the crosses. In Choteč, indications of early settlement thus sit alongside specific information about later changes and conservation work.

Bell Tower and Building Forms

The wooden bell tower has a shingle roof. A sandstone cross dating from 1849 stands beside it. The different materials provide two distinct architectural features: wood and shingles characterise the bell tower, and sandstone the neighbouring cross. The date 1849 refers to the cross.

Cycling Routes and a Bridge West of the Village

KČT cycling route 4191 runs through Choteč. Marked local cycling routes also intersect in the eastern part of the village. These are two distinct points of reference for cyclists. Check the current route and conditions before setting off.

Another structure lies outside the village proper: west of Choteč, on the road towards Sezemice–Býšť, is road bridge No. 298/005. This small structure has a single arch and is built of rubble stone; the arch is made of sandstone blocks. The masonry is therefore easy to distinguish: rubble stone for the structure, dressed sandstone blocks for the arch.

Summer Events at Bašta

During the summer months, sports events and some social events take place at Choteč’s Bašta. Its use is seasonal; if you want to plan your stay around it, check the specific dates. There is seating at the shelter. It may offer simple refreshments to participants; check on site whether this is available during your visit.

For planning purposes, the main difference between these topics is their conditions: events depend on the specific summer dates, while a cycling trip depends on the current route and conditions. The cultural and historical features, in turn, can be understood through their form, location and different dates. This lets you choose the focus of your stay based on the interests that matter most to you.
