Location and landscape

Zlatý Potok is a mountain settlement with buildings scattered across the northern slope of Jeřáb. The mountain is 999 metres high, and the settlement’s cadastral area covers 297 hectares. The height and area refer to different things: Jeřáb and the area of the settlement. The stream of the same name flows through Zlatý Potok; it empties into the nearby Morava. The historic German name “Goldenfluss” derives from its location beside a stream that flows into the Morava. The mountain setting, watercourse and history of the name are thus connected in a concrete way.

Local history

The settlement was probably founded in the second half of the 16th century; at that time, Zlatý Potok belonged to the Rudá estate. The dating and the estate affiliation complement each other: together, they situate both the settlement’s early phase and its historical context at the time. For visitors interested not only in the landscape but also in the settlement’s development, this combination provides a chronological reference point.

Hiking and cycling

Hiking trail M 91 connects the Jeřáb massif and Suchý vrch through the Březná Valley. Either half of the route can be used as an approach route; return options are available via Králíky or Štíty. When planning, take into account both the section you choose and the return journey. Check the trail markings and current conditions on site before setting out.

A cycling route passes through Zlatý Potok. Its geographical scope differs from that of M 91: the hiking trail connects two mountain areas through the Březná Valley, while the cycling route passes through the settlement. This offers a practical comparison when choosing an outing: you can compare a connection between the Jeřáb massif and Suchý vrch with a route through the settlement. This lets you distinguish between exploring local history, hiking between mountain areas and cycling through the settlement when deciding what to focus on.
