Oskava offers a journey through wooded hills, nature experiences and local history. A large part of the municipality lies within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area; forests and hills with significant changes in elevation define the area. The Oskava River flows through the municipality. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose different focuses, from outdoor activities and seasonal pursuits to historic buildings.
Hiking, the Castle and a Cycling Route
Marked hiking trails lead to Rabštejn Castle from Bedřichov, a district of Oskava. The castle was founded at the end of the 13th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1318. This lets you combine a marked hike with a specific historical destination. There are also climbing crags at the castle, with routes of varying difficulty. Cycling Route 6032 runs through Oskava. Before setting out, check the route conditions and signage so your cycling plans reflect current conditions. The hiking connection to Rabštejn and the cycling route through Oskava are two different ways to explore the area.
Seasonal Activities
In winter, cross-country skiing is possible from Rabštejn in the direction of Skřítek. Fishing is possible during the seasonal period at the local reservoir in Mostkov and at the private POD TRIANGLEM pond in Oskava. This gives you activities with different seasonal requirements: cross-country skiing is specifically associated with winter, while for fishing you should check whether the seasonal period matches your travel dates. This lets you choose an activity based on the time of year you are travelling.
Local History and Sacred Buildings
Local history apparently includes gold panning and ironworking as early as the 13th century. These activities may date back to Celtic or Great Moravian times.
Churches and chapels also offer their own historical points of interest. The Church of St. Florian in Oskava was consecrated in 1785. Bedřichov is home to the Neo-Gothic Church of St. Bedřich: it was built in 1869 and consecrated in 1872. The Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua in Třemešek was built in 1887 and reopened and consecrated after restoration on June 18, 2016. In Mostkov, the chapel dedicated to the same saint was consecrated in 1908; in 2018, its tower, roof and façade were fully restored.
In chronological terms, the history of Rabštejn Castle reaches back to the end of the 13th century; the sacred buildings mentioned here add to the picture with construction, consecration and restoration dates from later centuries. Local history therefore encompasses both a medieval landmark and more recent periods of construction and restoration.
