In Ĺ tĂty, local history and landscape offer two distinct focal points: the historic town center has been designated a heritage zone, while a walking route leads from the town square through hilly woodland. There is also a regional cycling route and a sports center open to the public. You can plan your trip around whichever interests you most: architectural history, a walking route, or sports.
History in the town center
In 1992, the Czech Ministry of Culture designated the historic town center of Ĺ tĂty as a heritage zone. One notable landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary: built in 1755 in the Late Baroque style, it received its present domed tower design in 1912. On its north side stands a Calvary group, an Empire-style sculpture dating from 1808.
The town’s architectural history can also be traced through individual buildings and monuments. The former town hall dates from the 16th century, is part of the original buildings in the historic town center, and is still used for municipal purposes. The Marian column in the square behind the present-day town hall dates from 1716 and is associated with the end of a plague epidemic. Ĺ tĂty probably originated as a dependent small town below Ĺ ilperk Castle, which stood behind the present-day church.
Another historic building is the former prison, built in 1867. Its barred cell windows are still visible today. The best view of the building is from the steps by the health center. Its documented building history and this specific viewpoint offer a different way to explore local history than the church, town hall, and monuments.
Woodland trails and landscape
Ĺ tĂty lies at the edge of the easternmost foothills of the OrlickĂ© hory and close to the foothills of the JesenĂky Mountains. The Ĺ tĂty–Na ZámeckĂ˝ vrch walking route starts at the town square and leads through hilly woodland. After a long, steep descent through the forest, the route continues toward the road to JedlĂ and then to the weir on the BĹ™ezná. This description gives a clear sense of the route: from its starting point in town, it passes through woodland, descends steeply, and reaches the two named landmarks.
Hrádek “Na zámku,” also called ZámeckĂ˝ vrch, was one of three presumed medieval fortifications in the vicinity of Ĺ tĂty. The site lies hidden in a shady forest above the BĹ™ezná.
Cycling route, sports, and getting around
Regional cycling route 521 runs from Moravská TĹ™ebová to Ĺ tĂty. It offers another way to include the town in a journey through the region, distinct from the walking route starting at the town square. The Acrobat Park, founded by Olympic champion Aleš Valenta, is a multifunctional sports center in Ĺ tĂty and is open to the general public. Alongside the historic and scenic attractions, it adds a sporting option.
For travel information, the Ĺ tĂty Tourist Information Center offers, among other things, train and bus timetables. Services can change, so check the latest information if you plan to use it. When choosing where to stay, the main question is straightforward: would you like to focus on local history, include the walking route and its woodland stretch, or are you mainly interested in the sports center?
