Loštice offers several distinct points of interest: Jewish heritage, the history of Olomoucké tvarůžky, and trails through the countryside. The cemetery, synagogue, parish church, and memorial site lead to different chapters of local history; the cheese museum and an educational trail offer further highlights. Several marked cycling routes pass through Loštice, while Žádlovice Park offers an additional perspective on the landscape. You can shape your trip around the themes that interest you most.
History and memorial sites
The Jewish cemetery in Loštice was established at its present site in 1554. The grounds contain around 650 stone gravestones, including examples of Baroque and late Baroque design. The cemetery is open to visitors free of charge; please follow the information provided on site.
The synagogue in Loštice has survived in its classically remodelled form dating from 1805–1806. It houses a permanent museum exhibition on the history of Jewish communities in the region. The cemetery and synagogue thus offer different points of access: the gravestones in the cemetery and the history of the community in the exhibition.
The parish church of St. Procopius has an early medieval core dating from the mid-13th century. The protected chateau complex in Loštice includes a park, two garden pavilions, and a fountain with a statue of Diana.
The Adolf Kašpar Memorial is located in the house where illustrator Adolf Kašpar spent the summers with his family from 1911 to 1932. A permanent exhibition displays works from the artist’s career. The site thus connects a specific chapter of his life with an overview of his work.
Tvarůžky and the museum
The Muzeum Olomouckých tvarůžků traces the history of the Czech cheese from its earliest historical mentions to modern production. If you would like to include a food-related attraction in your trip alongside the cultural sites, the museum offers a dedicated focus on the subject.
The museum offers groups of ten people a tasting of Olomoucké tvarůžky in five flavours. If you plan to take advantage of this offer, confirm the booking details before your visit.
Educational trail, cycling routes, and parkland
The Naučná stezka lišky Bystroušky educational trail starts in Loštice and is divided into several sections of varying difficulty. It also includes play features for children. Several marked cycling routes also pass through Loštice, offering another way to include cycling in your trip plans.
More than 100 species and varieties of woody plants have been recorded in Žádlovice Park. Together, the protected park and the adjacent former game reserve form a nearly 30-hectare natural and landscaped area with four small ponds. The parkland complements the historical points of interest with its own perspective on woody plants and designed landscapes.
