Hluchov can be explored through several historical perspectives: the former Hluchovský dvůr estate, the development of the castle, monuments and the view from the viewpoint above the village. Here, you’ll encounter a range of themes—from economic and architectural history to remembrance of the world wars.
Economic History and the Castle
The Hluchovský dvůr estate represents several chapters in the local economic history. A brewery was part of the estate as early as 1583. In the past, there was also a distillery there. The first sugar factory in Moravia was also established at Hluchovský dvůr. The brewery, distillery and sugar production illustrate the estate’s different uses. The first sugar factory in Moravia also places the history of the estate in a broader Moravian context.
Another historical thread leads to Hluchov Castle. It originated as a Renaissance fortress that was converted into a castle. In the 18th century, the fortress was remodelled in the Baroque style. The Renaissance fortress is thus the starting point of the castle’s history, while the Baroque remodelling represents a later architectural layer. Together, the castle and Hluchovský dvůr reveal different sides of the village’s history: the development of a building and the estate’s former production.
Chapel, Crosses and Remembrance
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is dated 1805–1808. A stone cross from 1863 stands in front of it. Another historic monument is the Baroque stone cross from 1761. The dates mark different periods: the Baroque cross is older than the chapel and the cross in front of it. The chapel and the two stone crosses can therefore be considered both individually and in chronological comparison.
The war memorial “PomnĂk padlĂ˝m” commemorates the victims of the First and Second World Wars. It adds a distinct theme of remembrance to the architectural and monument history.
Viewpoint and Surroundings
Above Hluchov is the rest area “MĂsto setkávánà – vyhlĂdka,” which offers a beautiful view of the village. A bell tower dated 1871 stands at the viewpoint. It is made from beams from the former school, which now houses the MateĹ™ská škola Hluchov kindergarten. The view and the building material come together at this named location: the view looks out over Hluchov, while the tower’s material recalls the former school.
The Bělecký Mlýn estate lies near Hluchov, in the valley of the Romže River. It offers agritourism, recreation and other leisure activities. This connection adds a distinct leisure focus in the surrounding area to the history of the village. Bělecký Mlýn can thus be considered a separate topic alongside the monuments and the history of Hluchovský dvůr.
