Výšovice can be discovered in two different ways: through the local history surrounding the castle and along marked cycling route No. 5013, which passes through the village. There is also Véšovské košt, a tasting held in the castle’s reception rooms. You can focus on architectural and parish history, see Výšovice as part of a cycling trip, or, if the timing works, take the event into account.
Výšovice Castle and its Architectural History
Výšovice Castle is a significant feature of the village centre. As an immovable cultural monument, it is listed under registration number 5866 in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic. The castle acquired its present appearance through a reconstruction in 1796. A restoration begun in 1999 also included the renovation of frescoes. This brings together the castle’s importance to the townscape and two different aspects of its architectural history: its present appearance and the later work on the frescoes.
Parish History and Heritage Protection
The parish of Výšovice is documented from 1345. It ceased to exist around 1630 and was re-established in 1760. This sequence includes an interruption and a later revival, rather than continuous development. The complex of the Church of St Lawrence was added to the list of Czech cultural monuments in May 1958. The year 1958 marks the church complex’s protected status, while the parish dates tell of institutional changes. Výšovice is also home to a statue of St John of Nepomuk, another religious landmark in the village.
Véšovské košt: Tasting and Event
Véšovské košt is a tasting of slivovitz, fruit brandies and homemade liqueurs, held in the reception rooms of Výšovice Castle. Visitors can sample all the competition spirits and homemade liqueurs. The first edition took place on 21 February 2009; it was subsequently decided to hold the event regularly. If you are planning to travel for Véšovské košt, check the date of the relevant edition in advance.
Cycling Route and Choosing an Apartment
Marked cycling route No. 5013 starts in Prostějov and passes through Určice, Výšovice and Skalka. This gives cyclists a specific route connection: Výšovice is one of the places along this marked route. The village can therefore be part of a cycling trip, while its castle and parish history offer a cultural and historical perspective. Before setting out, it is worth checking the current route and conditions.
When choosing an apartment, you can start with the purpose of your trip. If you mainly want to focus on castle and parish history, plan a culturally and historically themed stay; for a cycling trip, plan your stages around route 5013. Véšovské košt is another possible reason to visit, if an edition is taking place at a suitable time. Check the event date and accommodation availability for your travel dates.
