Budětsko offers several specific points of interest for a cultural and historical stay: chapels built in different years, crosses with their own stories of origin, memorial markers and historic remains in the Pilávka Valley. The local history brings together different themes—religious practice, personal commemoration and remembrance of the fallen. These distinctions can help you decide whether the historical perspective suits your planned stay.

Chapels and Religious Traditions

The Chapel of St Anne was built between 1900 and 1902 and consecrated on 14 July 1903. Its history combines a two-year construction period with a church ceremony on a precisely recorded date. Services are still held in the chapel four times a year, with May devotions also taking place in May. Check the current liturgical calendar before your visit. As of 2020, the chapel is accessible during services.

The Chapel of Our Lady was built in 1823 on the main road from Konice to Olomouc. The dates place the two chapels in different historical periods: the small chapel dates from the early 19th century, while the Chapel of St Anne was built more than eight decades later. The construction and consecration dates of the Chapel of St Anne also mark two distinct stages in its history.

Memorials and Crosses

The memorial in Slavíkov commemorates local residents who fell in the First World War. Their names, dates of birth and death, and portraits have been preserved. Alongside collective commemoration, the memorial therefore focuses on details about individual people. In Budětsko, a war memorial to the fallen residents was erected in 1923. Both memorials commemorate the fallen; the Slavíkov memorial also preserves biographical details.

The crosses, too, tell stories of different changes and occasions. The Cross Beyond the Village originally dates from the early 18th century and was initially made of wood. In 1844, it was replaced by a stone cross. Both its early origins and the change in material form part of the memorial’s history.

Pavlův kříž is a stone cross at the junction of the road from Konice to Olomouc and the turn-off to Ochoz. It was erected in 1876 in gratitude that the builder’s daughter had remained in good health. The precise location and personal reason behind its erection give the cross two distinct points of reference: a specific place and a private expression of gratitude.

The Cross of St Barbora was erected in 1928 after Štěpán Grulich survived an accident at this spot. Together with Pavlův kříž, it shows how crosses can be linked to individual experiences. The Cross Beyond the Village, by contrast, is notable for its change from wood to stone.

Another historical reminder is preserved in the memorial bell in the bell tower in Budětsko. It dates from 1765 and weighs 65 kilograms. Its precise age places it in a different period from the crosses and memorials erected in the 19th and 20th centuries; as a memorial bell, it also carries its own commemorative significance.

Historical Remains in the Pilávka Valley

Outside the village, in the Pilávka Valley, are the remains of a mill and a sawmill, as well as a log forester’s lodge. The mill, sawmill and forester’s lodge point to different kinds of work. The lodge is decorated with colourful paintings depicting a funeral procession at a forester’s burial and a hero slaying a dragon. These motifs offer a different perspective from the dated crosses and memorials: here, visual depictions accompany the architectural remains.

Budětsko’s historical heritage therefore ranges from religious practice and personal and collective remembrance to preserved historic structures. Visitors who make local history the focus of their stay can compare the specific dates, occasions and motifs without reducing the different traces to a single story.
