Velký Týnec combines a 12-kilometer hiking trail with memorials, churches and a layered architectural history. When planning your visit, you can focus on different things: a longer hike with information panels, architectural details or a stay timed around an event. The following places and topics offer different ways to explore the area.

Hiking Trail and Event Dates

The Stezka z Týnce do Týnce is a 12-kilometer hiking trail. Ten stops with information panels highlight local sights and facts. The route therefore combines a clearly specified distance with an informative focus: the panels cover not only sights but also other local facts. Planning the trail gives you a specific hiking option, while letting you decide how much time to spend at each stop.

Another reason to visit is Týnecká folková zahrada, a recurring folk music festival held in the castle garden. An edition took place in 2025; another was announced for September 5, 2026. If you are planning a later trip, it is worth checking the current event dates. The castle garden itself is freely accessible. However, attending the festival and visiting the garden are separate planning considerations: for an event, the date matters.

Hradisko and the History of the Castle

The Hradisko monument commemorates the freedom of the Czech nation and the victims of the world wars. It is a monumental structure made of rubble stone, with features including an enclosing wall and a staircase. A memorial stone near the monument commemorates its ceremonial unveiling in 1921, attended by President Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. The monument thus brings together its present-day commemorative purpose and a specific event in its history.

The history of the castle offers another historical perspective. Velký Týnec Castle stands on the site of an originally medieval fortress with a farmyard. Count Karel Martinic had a Baroque castle built on the fortress grounds. The freely accessible castle garden offers a separate reason to visit; the information about access applies to the garden, not necessarily to the castle building.

Churches and Architectural Details

The Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie church took its present form between 1750 and 1760. It is a single-nave, longitudinal building with a semicircular apse. The church’s Stations of the Cross were originally laid out along the path to Hradisko. The building’s form and the original layout of the Stations of the Cross offer two different insights: one concerns the shape of the building, the other its former spatial relationship to a path.

The Kostel sv. Matouše church stands in Vsisko and was built in 1867. Two statues stand in front of its entrance: Saint Barbara and Saint Matthew, both dating from the first half of the 18th century. The church also houses a working E. Krauss harmonium from Stuttgart, made in the second third of the 19th century. Following a major repair in 2024, the instrument’s condition may have changed; if you are particularly interested in it, check its current condition in advance.

The Kaple Narození Panny Marie chapel in Čechovice was built in 1901. Here, too, it is possible to distinguish between the exterior and interior description: the chapel is single-nave and longitudinal, with a semicircular apse. Two statues stand in front of the building; the years 1913 and 1890 can be read on their pedestals. These dates refer to the pedestals and add two more dated details to the chapel’s history.

The Husův sbor Církve československé husitské was built in 1924 to a design by Alois Košacký. A memorial plaque to the Czechoslovak legionaries is located on its entrance façade. Other details at the Kaple Panny Marie chapel point to church history: the gable bears Canon Giannini’s coat of arms, and a stone plaque has an inscription and the year 1755.

A Distinctive Landscape Feature

Háje Malého Noe was established on Hradisko hill near Velký Týnec. The grove was created with support from the Nadace Malý Noe foundation, the municipality of Velký Týnec, the Arboeko company and individual tree sponsors. The named contributors offer insight into how the grove came about; its creation adds a landscape feature alongside the architectural and historical themes.

The different planning details can help you choose your itinerary: the hike has a set distance, the festival a specific event date, and the churches and monuments offer dated architectural and commemorative history. If you are planning your trip around the hiking trail, factor the 12 kilometers into your plans. For a festival-focused trip, check the current dates; if you are particularly interested in the harmonium, ask about the instrument’s condition.
