In Paseka, nature destinations and sacred architectural history offer different points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel or other accommodation in Paseka, you can plan your trip around your interests: the arboretum and waterfalls offer a different experience from the 17-kilometre hiking route, skate park or sacred buildings.
Nature and landscape
The Makču Pikču Arboretum lies between the municipality of Paseka and the medieval Sovinec Castle. Its distinctive features include rock gardens, ponds with ornamental fish and an artificial canyon; it is also home to numerous plants from around the world. Individual plantings may change. The landscaped garden areas and variety of plants offer different facets of this natural attraction.
The Pasecké vodopády waterfalls are at the end of Paseka, where the Hornomoravský úval meets the deeply incised Pasecký žleb. The Teplička stream flows over several rock ledges; together, the waterfall is about five metres high. This figure refers to the total height of the cascade. An observation pavilion stands just above the rapids. As its condition may change, it is advisable to check before visiting.
Hiking and seasonal activities
An official hiking route runs for 17 kilometres from Šternberk via Řídeč and Paseka to Karlov and Sovinec Castle. It offers a route option with a clearly stated distance to help you plan your stay. Trail conditions may change, so check the latest route information before setting out.
Another way to stay active is at the Paseka skate park. The reinforced-concrete facility covers about 600 m² and includes ramps, stairs, a shallow bowl, boxes and rails. The layout may change, so check it if you are planning your visit around specific features.
Paseka’s natural swimming pond and its snack bar operate during the summer season. If you are planning a summer stay, take this seasonal availability into account.
Sacred architectural history and walks
The Chapel of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (Povýšení sv. Kříže) in Paseka is a modern sacred block building, constructed between 1914 and 1917. At the parish Church of St Kunhuta (sv. Kunhuty), the oldest part has a longer building history: the core of its prismatic tower dates from the Late Gothic period and is the oldest part of the present-day church. This distinguishes two different periods of construction—the chapel’s construction in the early 20th century and the Late Gothic origins of the tower’s core.
Below the sanatorium is an extensive landscape park with notable tree species. The landscape park and the chapel below the sanatorium are open to the public at all times and are places for walks and relaxation.
Visitors can make their own way to the forest chapel in Paseka; a key can be borrowed from the eighth ward. Check access and key availability before your visit. Since the previous year, Mass has been celebrated there regularly on 14 September, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. If you would like to plan your trip around the service, check the date in advance.
