Nová Hradečná combines a clearly defined hike with a rich local history. The eight-kilometre Bradlo educational trail leads from Nová Hradečná over the summit to Libina; the church, rectory and other historic traces offer a different focus. When planning your stay, these are two distinct themes: a route with panoramic views of the surrounding area, and cultural and historical details in the village. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether Bradlo, the historic buildings or a combination of both will shape your stay.
Bradlo: Educational Trail and Panoramic Views
The educational trail through the landscape of the memorable Bradlo leads from Nová Hradečná over Bradlo summit to Libina. It is eight kilometres long. Along the route, there are play panels, information boards and wooden animals. This mix of playful and informative features gives the trail its own character in addition to its route. In the vicinity of Nová Hradečná, Bradlo stands at an elevation of 600 metres and is the highest point in the Úsovská vrchovina. The panoramic views extend to Hrubý Jeseník, Králický Sněžník and the Hornomoravský úval. For your planning, the trail’s length provides a concrete guideline, while its elevation and panoramic views describe the destination’s landscape character.
Church, Rectory and Heritage Details
The Church of St. Lawrence was completed in 1764. Its furnishings include historic Baroque organs from the pilgrimage church on Svatý Kopeček near Olomouc. The church and cemetery are surrounded by a wall that is itself a cultural monument. Two sandstone gravestones of Schwarzenberg uhlans are set into the wall at the northern gate. The historical details mentioned here are found in different places: the organs are part of the church’s furnishings, while the wall and gravestones define the area around the church and cemetery.
The rectory in Nová Hradečná is a registered immovable cultural monument. The then landlord, Prince Josef Václav Vavřinec of Liechtenstein, had it built between 1764 and 1768. The year 1764 links the church and rectory, but refers to different things: for St. Lawrence’s, it is the year of completion; for the rectory, it marks the beginning of the construction period. This distinction keeps the two building histories precise.
Chapel and Other Traces of Local History
The Chapel of St. Anthony of Padua stands in Hradec, on the edge of Nová Hradečná. It was extended with a small chancel in 1895. It formed part of a pilgrimage route held regularly on 13 June; a Mass is celebrated in the chapel around the feast day of St. Anthony. The chapel is therefore associated with both a specific structural alteration and a religious tradition with a fixed date. Traces of an old hillfort have also survived to this day in the cadastral area of Nová Hradečná. These add evidence of a fortification to the history of the religious buildings.
