Václavovice offers a range of things to explore, from a former sand pit with ponds to chapels, windmills and a wooden bell tower. During your stay, you can focus on nature, an easy walk or local architectural and commemorative history. The circular route is described as easy and is 3.8 kilometres long; cycling route 6063 passes through Václavovice and several other places.

Pískovna, Ponds and Nature Spots

Pískovna in Václavovice is a former sand extraction site. Its ponds were formed after the sand was extracted and shape the character of this landscape. The purpose of protecting Pískovna is to safeguard the great crested newt; the area is part of the Natura 2000 network, and fire-bellied toads are also found there. The presence of wildlife may change.

The circular route through Václavovice passes by the protected Pískovna. This lets you combine the route with a view of the former sand extraction site and its nature conservation area. Two other places offer different starting points for walks: beavers have settled at Kamenec Pond, and the Ryninka spring is also regarded as a place for walks and relaxation. It lies on the border between Václavovice and Sedliště.

Walking and Cycling

The “Vpravo, vlevo, po potoce” (“Right, Left, Along the Stream”) circular route begins at the primary school and kindergarten building in Václavovice. It is 3.8 kilometres long and is described as an easy walking route. The trail passes Pískovna and also goes by the “Chapel of Lost Heritage,” a modern artwork by the Šenov artist Oldřich Harok. As trail conditions may change, check them before setting out.

For a cycling trip, local route 6063 is another option. The municipality’s 2014 plan describes its route from Petřvald via Šenov, Šimška and Sedliště; through Václavovice, it follows local roads and purpose-built paths. Check the signs and the condition of the trail surfaces on site. The two routes therefore offer different points of reference for choosing: the circular route has a stated length and difficulty level, while the cycling route can be planned based on the places it passes and its course.

Chapels, Church and Local Architectural History

The chapel near house number 11 is listed in the municipality’s 2014 planning document as the only immovable cultural monument in Václavovice. Another chapel is on Potoční Street. It dates from 1805, is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk and commemorates the Russian army’s march towards Slavkov for the Battle of the Three Emperors that same year.

The Church of St. Wenceslas on Václavovická Street is also a local landmark: it is considered an architectural symbol of Václavovice. A 2014 cultural heritage register also mentions a wooden bell tower and several surviving original wooden houses. It also lists four windmills, which it describes as operational.

Those interested in art along a walking route will find another named work along the way: the “Chapel of Lost Heritage.” Together with the chapels and the church, it offers a distinct cultural focus alongside the nature spots. You can plan according to your interests: Pískovna and the ponds represent landscape and nature conservation, the circular route offers a short walk, and the named buildings and artworks showcase local history and design.
