Two cycling routes lead to Holasovice, and the town’s historical points of interest range from archaeological remains of churches to a museum about life in a Silesian village. This offers different ways to plan a stay: cycling routes, early settlement history and everyday culture through to the 20th century. What you choose depends on whether you want to get to know Holasovice mainly as a cycling destination or as a place with historical themes.
Cycling Routes to Holasovice
The 33-kilometre Cycling Route 6160 starts in Razová and runs via Horní Benešov, Sosnová, Brumovice and Skrochovice to Holasovice. The 29-kilometre Route 6164 also leads to Holasovice, from Leskovec nad Moravicí via Staré Heřminovy, Svobodné Heřmanovice and Sádek. Route 6164 is therefore four kilometres shorter; the starting points and the order of the places along the way also differ. When choosing between the two, you can use the distance and the listed places as concrete points of comparison for planning your ride.
Archaeological Traces and History
On the Hradisko in Holasovice are the remains of a masonry church, which V. Šikulová dated to the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries. Foundations of a masonry church dating from the mid-12th century were uncovered in the garden near Javorníky. The two finds provide different chronological reference points: the Hradisko church is dated to the turn of the 13th century, while the Javorníky church dates to the middle of the century.
A papal bull issued by Hadrian IV on 23 April 1155 is used to date Holasovice. Historians identify the “Gradice golensicezke” mentioned in it with present-day Holasovice. Historians also regard Holasovice as an important settlement in the province of the Holasici. This gives you a range of historical reference points: archaeological church finds, a dated bull and the historical classification of the settlement. Chronologically, the foundations from the mid-12th century predate the bull of 1155; the church remains on Hradisko are dated to the turn of the 13th century.
Village History at the Muzeum Slezský venkov
The Muzeum Slezský venkov is located in a former estate in the centre of Holasovice, on a site of archaeological significance. It presents life in a Silesian village through to the mid-20th century, with a particular focus on the period and traditions of the so-called First Republic. This thematic scope differs from that of the older church finds: the museum focuses on village life over a longer period, while the archaeological evidence concerns individual structures from the 12th century. You can reach the museum by car, train, bicycle, on foot or by boat. If you choose to travel by train or boat, check current connections in advance.
