The “Zabytki techniki” cycling tour passes through Mikolajice and is 55 kilometres long. Chapels, crosses and a wayside shrine also provide a cultural and historical focus. This gives you two different ways to explore the area when planning your trip: a specific cycling route and local traces of history.

History in the feudal register

Mikolajice is first mentioned in a feudal register of the Bishop of Olomouc under the Latin form “Niclouicz”. An entry from 1389 names Ota Stoš of Bránice as the owner of two parts of Mikolajice; at the time, these parts were a fief of the Bishop of Olomouc in the Osoblaha district. In 1408, Mikolajice belonged to the Štáblovice fief estate, which was then administered by Jan z Liptáně. The dates mark different points of reference: in 1389, the focus is on Ota Stoš and the two parts; in 1408, on the fief estate and its administrator.

Chapels, crosses and a wayside shrine

The Chapel of Saint Florian is considered an architectural landmark of Mikolajice; it has a cross dating from 1892. The Chapel of Saint Anne also stands on road III/44339. Also on this road, at the northern edge of the built-up area, is the chapel dedicated to fallen soldiers; it is considered a monument of local significance.

A cross dating from 1886 stands on road II/443 at the eastern boundary of Mikolajice. A wayside shrine is located on the same road, at the eastern edge of the built-up area. The cross is therefore at the eastern boundary of the village, while the wayside shrine is at the edge of the built-up area; these descriptions refer to different points of reference.

Events with their own character

The Vodění medvěda procession passed through Mikolajice in 2022 and 2026. The event date given for the 2026 edition was 14 February. If you are planning for a later edition, check the date, as future dates may differ. In 2025, people were invited in Mikolajice to the traditional 27th Selská Hubertova jízda. Riders on horseback and participants with horse-drawn vehicles are both welcome at the Selská Hubertova jízda; spectators can be taken along on horseback.

Cycling route with clear planning details

The “Zabytki techniki” cycling tour runs through Dolní Životice, Mikolajice and Štáblovice. It is 55 kilometres long and is described as easy. When planning, it is worth considering the length and difficulty separately: 55 kilometres indicates the extent of the route, while “easy” is its stated difficulty level. This can help you decide whether the distance and rating suit your own cycling plans.
