Landscape and natural setting

North of Hlubočec rises Hůrka, a 530 m-high hill. With its mobile phone and television transmitter, it forms a distinctive landmark in the landscape. Hlubočec is surrounded by cultivated fields and extensive forest complexes of the Nízký Jeseník. Streams rise below Hůrka and flow through wooded valleys. The area around Hlubočec is part of the “Přírodní park Moravice” Nature Park. This brings together a single prominent hill and a broader landscape: Hůrka shapes the local character, while fields, forest complexes and valleys form the wider setting.

Chapel and Setina Valley

The Chapel of St John Paul is designated in Hlubočec as a monument and a site of local significance. It was built on the site of a wooden chapel; in 2013, Hlubočec celebrated the 120th anniversary of its consecration. The chapel thus combines local heritage significance with a specific history: an earlier wooden building and a consecration anniversary celebration. It is also a landmark on the green-marked hiking trail that leads from the chapel into the Setina Valley.

The trail passes Honův mlýn and its pond, then descends to a paved road leading to Hlubočec. The chapel, Setina Valley, mill and pond provide a sequence of named landmarks along the route. Check the local signs when you arrive.

Cycle route and Sportovní areál

The 15 km-long cycle route No. 6141, “Údolím Raduňky,” runs between Hradec nad Moravicí, the area near Skřipov, Hlubočec and Pustá Polom. It offers a different scale for planning than the green-marked trail: here, the total distance and several places along the route are specified, while the hiking trail follows stops in the Setina Valley. The choice of focus for your outing is clear: a valley trail with named landmarks or a designated cycle route passing through several places.

At the Sportovní areál in Hlubočec, facilities are available to rent, including a tennis and nohejbal court with artificial turf, a grass playing field and a fire-sport track. A building with a fully equipped kitchen and basic tableware can also be rented there for up to 30 people. There is also covered outdoor seating, changing rooms and sanitary facilities. For groups considering the building, the capacity of up to 30 people is a useful point of reference.

Dožínkové slavnosti 2025

At the Dožínkové slavnosti on 6 September 2025, a mass in the chapel was followed by a procession of agricultural and fire service vehicles to the local Sportovní areál. The programme for this edition included traditional crafts, entertainment for children, brass and cimbalom music, and an evening dance. The event thus brought together a religious opening, a procession and various cultural activities; these details refer to the festival day in 2025.
