Bolatice brings together tangible traces of local history, exhibitions, an educational trail, and opportunities for exercise and leisure. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether cultural history, cycling, or a visit to the outdoor pool and sports and leisure area should be the focus. These themes can help you choose what to explore without requiring you to follow a set order during your visit.

Local history and the church

Bolatice was first mentioned in writing in 1250. The reference appears in a letter from Pope Innocent IV, issued in Lyon on 18 December 1250, which transferred the area to the Cistercian monastery in Velehrad. The history of the village can therefore be traced to a specific document and a precisely dated event.

The Church of Saint Stanislaus also has a long building history: it was built in 1703 and expanded to its present form in 1911–1912. The parish church preserves relics of Saint Stanislaus, which were given to it from Kraków in 2024. They are kept in a reliquary in the left side aisle. The church year also includes Odpust, the patron saint’s feast, which is celebrated every year on the Sunday after the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. If this celebration is relevant to your trip, check the exact date in advance.

Open-air museum and exhibitions

The Skanzen lidových tradic a řemesel open-air museum is housed in one of the few surviving traditional village buildings from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Visitors can see traditional living quarters, a washhouse, a horse stable, a cowshed, and a granary. The collection also includes craft tools, agricultural machinery, and household appliances. The different rooms and objects offer several tangible ways to explore traditional village life and craftsmanship.

The Skanzen is also home to an exhibition of experimental archaeology. Its archaeological section presents artefact finds from Bolatice. In the experimental section, visitors learn how people lived in prehistoric times and what they needed to survive. The exhibition contains no replicas; its contents were developed through experimentation. Those interested in the connection between archaeological finds and practical questions about life in the past will find a different approach to history here than in the church’s architectural history.

Another cultural stop is the permanent exhibition of glacial erratics, visited by members of the general public and by schools. Meetings at the Muzeum souvkĹŻ are held twice a year, in April and September. Check the exact dates if you would like to plan your trip around one of these meetings.

Educational trail, cycling route and leisure

The educational trail in Chuchelenský les is a 6 km circular route. It starts and ends in Borová, a district of Bolatice, and has information boards about animals, plants, and trees. There are several rest areas along the way; the stream Zbojnička rises at one of them. As individual facilities may change, we recommend checking the condition of the rest areas before setting out.

Another option for planning your trip is cycling route 554, Prajzská cesta: It is 29 km long in total, runs from Kravaře to Šilheřovice, and passes through Bolatice. The 6 km circular trail and the 29 km cycling route describe different routes and cannot be compared as equivalent tours. Check the cycling route’s course locally before setting off.

The dry polders in Bolatice are significant landscape features. Their technical design and integration into the landscape are as interesting as the local fauna and flora. You can explore this subject independently of the marked walking and cycling routes; no connection between the polders and the educational trail is implied.

The outdoor pool and sports and leisure area has a large 30 × 25 m pool, a 15 × 25 m non-swimmer pool, and a 5 × 10 m paddling pool for children. Activities include beach volleyball, pétanque, and table tennis; bicycles are also available for hire. Activities may vary by season, and you should check the facilities on offer before your visit. This lets you weigh up swimming, sports, and route planning as different options for your stay.
