Velká Stáhle lies on both banks of the Moravice, just beyond its confluence with the Podolský potok. The village combines this clear geographical setting with a history of religious architecture, local technological history, and named cycling and walking routes. When planning your stay, you can therefore focus on different things: the church and chapel, the DDP 22 threshing machine, or routes towards Malá Štáhle and Slezská Harta.
Location and Accommodation
The Rýmařov–Valšov railway line runs through Velká Stáhle. The municipal tourist accommodation U školky is 100 metres from a stop on this railway line and 400 metres from a bus stop. This gives you two specific distances to help you plan a stay at this particular accommodation. If U školky is an option for your plans, confirm the facility details before booking.
Church and Chapel
The Church of the Most Holy Trinity was built by Jan Kobylka z Kobylí between 1576 and 1606 in the late Gothic style. Its tower offers wide-ranging views of the surrounding area. If you plan to take in the view from the tower, check access in advance.
The Chapel of Božího těla dates from 1927. It houses the original Baroque sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Two black marble plaques on the chapel name 32 victims of the 1914–1918 war. In contrast to the late Gothic church, the chapel brings together a 20th-century building, a Baroque sculpture and a memorial to the war victims.
A Threshing Machine in the Village Centre
The historic DDP 22 threshing machine was made by ED. LÖHNERT & SOHN in Velká Stáhle between 1929 and 1939. It is displayed in the village centre on the grounds of the kindergarten, beside a cycling rest area with seating. This adds a concrete example of local technological history to the history of religious architecture. As the local display may change, check the machine’s current location in advance.
Cycling and Walking Routes
Route 6142 can be extended via Břidličná towards the Slezská Harta Reservoir. Another cycling connection runs from Velká Stáhle along a farm track on the right bank of the Moravice to Malá Štáhle. These two routes offer different directions: Route 6142 leads via Břidličná to the reservoir, while the farm track leads to Malá Štáhle.
Nearby in Malá Štáhle, a nature trail runs through mining remains, including ponds, quarries and ravines. It includes a shared route for inline skating, cycling and walking. This is separate from the local path to a cross and a bell tower: it passes by the church building along a farm track; at a junction, turn right. Markings and trail conditions can change, so check the current conditions before setting out.
Landscape along the Moravice
The Moravice Valley is designated as a Natura 2000 site of Community importance. This protected-area designation adds a landscape point of reference to the specific local and route-related features to help you choose what to explore.
