Nová Pláň lies between the Slezská Harta Reservoir and road III/45213. Three distinct themes can help you plan your trip: cycling routes, swimming facilities and local history connected both with copper processing and the construction of the reservoir. You can choose the focus of your stay according to whether you want to explore the outdoors, go swimming or discover local history.

Local history between copper and the reservoir

The copper hammer around which Nová Pláň grew was founded in 1640. In the second half of the 17th century, a manufactory for copper goods and copper cookware was established at the hammer. The historical points of interest therefore range from the founding of the settlement around the hammer to the later production of copper items.

During the construction of the reservoir, most of the original buildings in Nová Pláň were flooded; only the southern part of the settlement remained. The former Neo-Gothic chapel with a prismatic tower, now Penzion U Jelena, is one of the two locally significant monuments in Nová Pláň. A school building was attached to the chapel; this building was converted into today’s Penzion U Jelena in 1990–1991.

The healing mineral spring is also part of the area’s history: it was buried during construction of the reservoir and later re-emerged in the same place. Even in earlier times, visitors came to Nová Pláň from the surrounding area because of its reputed healing properties.

Swimming facilities in Nová Pláň

Koupaliště Nová Pláň has a larger swimming pool with a slide and a separate, smaller children’s pool with a depth of 50 cm. A 40 m water slide has been built on the grounds; the swimming area also has a beach volleyball court. As access may vary by season, check availability before your visit.

The second scenic bathing pier in Nová Pláň has a parking area and toilets. This offers different options for a day of swimming: pools and beach volleyball at Koupaliště, and a parking area and toilets at the bathing pier.

Cycling routes and destinations

Signposted cycling route No. 6142 passes through the village. From Nová Pláň, it leads towards Roudno; the route is listed as 22 km long. Cycling route No. 6148 also starts in Nová Pláň and runs via Liščí díra, Vysoký kámen, Slunečná, Moravský Beroun and Petrovický mlýn to Domašov nad Bystřicí. The information answers different planning questions: for route 6142, the direction towards Roudno and the stated distance are the main points, while for route 6148, the sequence of named places is highlighted.

Nová Pláň is also the starting point for numerous hiking and cycling routes, including a route to the summit of Velký Roudný, a former volcano. If you plan to follow one of these routes, check the route and trail markings locally.
