Doksy offers different ways to plan a trip: cultural history centred on the castle and memorial, as well as nature-related themes in the Swamp protected area. There are also two educational trails with clearly specified distances and focuses. For your stay, you can decide how to balance culture, landscape and activity, and choose a hotel in Doksy based on what matters most to you.

Castle, Museum and Local History

Doksy Castle is in the town centre, northwest and below Náměstí Republiky. The Muzeum Čtyřlístek is housed in the castle. In June 2020, a tour about the Valdštejn family, featuring multimedia elements, opened there. The year refers to this event: the tour opened at that time.

Hospitálek offers a glimpse into another chapter of local history. It is the oldest surviving building in Doksy: a two-storey former hospital built using a timber-block construction method in 1669. Its construction year, former function and building style offer different clues to understanding the building. This historic house is therefore quite distinct from the cultural themes associated with the castle.

Mácha and Regional Culture

The K. H. Mácha Memorial presents the life and work of the Romantic poet Karel Hynek Mácha. It also explores his connection to the region, which inspired his poem Máj. The poet himself, his literature and the regional connection come together here. Those interested in literature will find a distinct cultural focus to include in their trip planning.

An exhibition at the memorial is also dedicated to fishing and fish farming in the Česká Lípa region. Alongside literature, it focuses on another subject: regional fishing and fish farming. These two themes are distinct and show different aspects of the region’s culture.

Wetland Landscape and Educational Trails

The Swamp National Natural Monument in Doksy protects a wetland with numerous pools. It provides a habitat for rare and endangered plant and animal species. Protected species include hrotnosemenka hnědá (Rhynchospora fusca) and the white water lily (Nymphaea candida). Those interested in nature will find not only a distinctive landscape here, but also specific species protected within the area.

The SWAMP educational trail provides information about protected and critically endangered animals and plants, as well as fish farming at Máchovo jezero. Máchovo jezero is part of the NPP SWAMP. The trail also has six information boards about environmental protection at Máchovo jezero. In this way, species and nature conservation sit alongside the lake and how it is managed as themes.

When choosing a route, you can compare its length, course and stated suitability. The Swamp educational trail is 15 kilometres long, runs from Doksy via Břehyň and back to Doksy, and is suitable for walkers and cyclists. Se Čtyřlístkem okolo Blaťáku is 13 kilometres long, is classified as an easy walking route and starts on Kuřivodská Street in Doksy. Route information may change; check it again before setting out.
