A 591-kilometre cycle route and a 12.5-kilometre circular trail offer two different scales for exploring the outdoors in Neudorf An Der Neiße. Other highlights include the source of the Nisa, the Nisanka lookout tower with its recurring celebrations, two churches dating from 1935, and species-rich meadows. Together, they give you different perspectives on the area: outdoor activities, nature, and cultural history.
The source of the Nisa and two routes
The source of the Nisa, in the area of Nová Ves nad Nisou, is designated as an important landscape feature. The 12.5-kilometre Smržovský vyhlídkový okruh leads, among other places, to the source and through Nová Ves; check the route before setting out. The international Odra–Nisa cycle route starts in Nová Ves nad Nisou, runs all the way to the Baltic Sea, and is 591 kilometres long. The direct comparison of lengths makes the choice clear: the circular trail is 12.5 kilometres, while the international cycle route is 591 kilometres. The source is not merely a point mentioned in the circular trail description; it is also designated as an important landscape feature. The route thus connects a specific natural site with its path through Nová Ves.
Nisanka and event dates
The Nisanka lookout tower stands on Novoveský vrch and opened on 5 May 2007. Since 2008, the New Year’s ascent and spring celebrations have been held there regularly; the latter take place in May as part of the Nisa River celebrations. The two events also differ in timing: one is linked to the turn of the year, while the other is specifically associated with May. If you would like to include a celebration in your stay, check the specific event dates before planning.
Two churches dating from 1935
The Catholic Church of Panny Marie, Pomocnice křesťanů and the Protestant Gustav-Adolf Church both date from 1935. Their shared year of construction provides a point of historical comparison, while their different denominations offer another. The Catholic church retains its original furnishings and has stained-glass windows. In addition to regular services, local volunteers have occasionally organized concerts there since the late 1990s. Check the date in advance if you plan to attend a concert.
Meadows and protected nature
Květnatá louka on Horní Černá Studnice, in the municipality of Nová Ves nad Nisou, is home to more than 60 meadow plant species, including specially protected species. The wet meadows of Horní Černá Studnice are home to, among others, the broad-leaved marsh orchid, the common spotted orchid, common lousewort, bogbean, sheathed cotton-grass, narrow-leaved cotton-grass, and marsh marigold. Novoveský javor has been designated a protected memorial tree since 2010. Nearby, there is a rest area with seating, a climbing frame for children, and views of the surrounding area. As a place to stop, the site combines seating with a climbing frame for children and views of the surrounding area. Check the condition of the facilities before your visit.
