When choosing a hotel in Zásada, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: Baroque architecture, glass bead craftsmanship, events or seasonal skiing. Very different themes come together in Zásada. Two specific conditions are important for planning: the Ski Centrum operates seasonally, and visits to the handmade production of costume jewellery and fashion accessories at ATLAS Zásada are possible only by prior arrangement.

Location between the mountains and the ridge

Zásada lies at the foot of the Jizerské hory and below the Černostudniční hřeben ridge. Both the mountains and a specific ridge are therefore part of the town’s landscape setting.

Chapel and monuments

The Chapel of St Prokop is considered the most important monument in Zásada. It was built in the Baroque style in 1749. Its furnishings include an intricately carved altar and oil paintings. The chapel’s construction date, style and furnishings each offer a distinct point of reference for travellers interested in architecture and local history.

The town’s monuments also include the statue of St John of Nepomuk, dating from 1823. It is considered a valuable example of folk architecture. Alongside the Baroque chapel, there is therefore also a later-dated work with a different architectural context.

Seasonal sports

The Zásada Ski Centrum has two downhill runs; operating conditions are seasonal. The children’s slope is about 100 m long and suitable for beginners. The second run is about 500 m long, 100 m wide and has an open layout. This distinguishes the explicitly stated suitability for beginners of the shorter children’s slope from the dimensions of the second downhill run. Before travelling, check whether the Ski Centrum is open during your planned visit.

Another sporting option is Bikepark Zásada, with numerous jumps and technical obstacles. Its features differ from those of the downhill runs, helping you compare the activities on offer.

Events and puppet theatre

The traditional Zásadská pouť is a family event held at Kapelní louka beside the Chapel of St Prokop. Since 2012, the SK ZÁSADA has organised the ZasTenRock family music festival in Zásada; it takes place on the grounds of the football stadium. If you are planning your trip around an event, check the date of the relevant edition.

Another activity for children is Loutkové divadlo Prokůpek. The troupe regularly performs mainly fairy-tale plays for children at the Sokolovna in Zásada.

Glassmaking and bead craftsmanship

On 7 January 2025, the Liberecký kraj reported that glass is still made in Zásada and that Preciosa Ornela’s glass bead division is also based there. ATLAS Zásada offers a separate opportunity to visit craft production: by prior arrangement, you can visit the handmade production of costume jewellery and fashion accessories made from small beads.
