The Zlatník stream and the slopes give Woleschnitz (Zlatá Olešnice) a distinct landscape character: the municipality stretches along the stream, and its upper part lies within the Jizerské hory Protected Landscape Area. There are also Baroque monuments, a historic walking route and a ski area near the municipal center. Culture, landscape and seasonal activities can therefore be considered as different focuses for a stay.

Landscape and Local Character

The Zlatá Olešnice Landscape Character Area is a foothill landscape with a relatively balanced proportion of forest and agricultural land. It includes meadows and pastures. Traditional architecture also shapes the area: the proportion of buildings in the original folk architectural style remains relatively high. These landscape and building features give the place a rural character, without requiring a single viewpoint or a particular route to take center stage.

At 826 meters, Javorník is the highest mountain in Zlatá Olešnice. Those interested in ridges and landscapes when planning a visit will find a specific geographic reference point here. The slopes along the Zlatník and the Jizerské hory Protected Landscape Area add to this view of the surroundings, while meadows, pastures and forests characterize the foothill landscape.

Baroque Buildings and History

In Návarov stands the small Baroque manor house of Návarov Chateau, surrounded by an extensive park. The chateau and its park are a protected cultural monument. Another historic stop is the ruin of Návarov Castle, where remnants of walls and traces of cellar rooms have survived. The castle was probably founded in the 14th century. The manor house and castle ruin thus offer different insights into the area's architectural history.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Martin is a protected monument of Baroque architecture and a defining landmark of Zlatá Olešnice. Antonín Teumer built it between 1780 and 1783. The church stands on a steep slope atop a high masonry base. Its construction dates, builder and striking location offer specific points of reference for understanding the building in its surroundings.

In Stanový is the cultural monument regarded as the birthplace of the writer Antal Stašek. The house has a half-timbered structure and a wooden-shingle roof; it probably dates from 1765. Stašek was born on July 22, 1843, in Stanový, in the foothills of the Giant Mountains. The local library is currently also housed in his birthplace.

Walking, Cycling Routes and Winter Activities

The historic “Zlatoolešnicko” walk starts at Návarov railway station and follows cycle route 4248a, then a green-marked hiking trail to Antal Stašek's birthplace in Stanový. The route thus connects a starting point in Návarov with a specific destination of cultural and historical interest. If you plan to start at the railway station, check train services separately in advance.

Cycling routes are also part of what the municipality offers: well-marked cycling routes run through Zlatá Olešnice, including the Járy Cimrmana cycle path. Check the route again before setting out on a particular ride, as route infrastructure should be verified before your trip. Cycling routes are therefore a separate planning option from the historic walk; the two descriptions refer to different routes and points of interest.

In winter, the Zlatá Olešnice ski area is located almost in the center of the municipality. It has a 500-meter red ski run and an easier 750-meter blue ski run. There is also a 95-meter rope tow for children. The ski school offers ski and snowboard lessons to children and adults. Check the ski area's operating details by season; lesson availability and times may also change seasonally.

The choice of focus therefore depends mainly on whether you want to prioritize historic buildings, the cultural landscape, a marked route or winter activities.
