Smržovka lies in the Jizera Mountains recreation area and is a center for summer and winter tourism. Its leisure activities range from forest walks and a hiking route to museums, a disc golf park and snow-dependent winter sports facilities. Nature, culture and winter activities each offer a different focus.

Forest, walks and a hiking route

Rare trees and shrubs from several regions of the world grow in the Městský lesopark Smržovka; however, their exact origins can no longer be determined. The park is a popular place for walks and individual leisure activities. The DiscGolfPark Smržovka also has a nine-hole course. Forest walks and disc golf thus offer different ways to spend time outdoors.

The Kolem Smržovky hiking route starts at Smržovka railway station, leads to the Černá Studnice viewpoint and returns to Smržovka via the toboggan run. These landmarks give the route a clear course. At the same time, the toboggan run is part of a hiking route here and is not described solely as a winter sports facility.

Cross-country skiing, downhill skiing and tobogganing in winter

Smržovka has about three kilometers of cross-country ski trails. The area is groomed for skating and two classic tracks; the machine-groomed trails connect to other trails. The Filip ski area offers a 500-meter downhill run with a vertical drop of 100 meters. Its operation depends on snow and climate conditions.

The Přírodní sáňkařská dráha Smržovka is a natural toboggan run almost four kilometers long. It follows groomed forest paths from the Černá Studnice viewpoint to the Filip ski lift in Smržovka; its use depends on snow conditions. The figures describe different activities: cross-country skiing involves trails and their connections, Filip offers a downhill run with a vertical drop, and the toboggan run follows forest paths. Snow and climate conditions should therefore be taken into account when choosing winter activities, especially downhill skiing and the toboggan run.

Museums, a historic building and crafts

The museums in Smržovka each have a different focus. The Muzeum místní historie a výstavní síň Smržovka is housed in the rooms of the Smržovka Zámeček. The Muzeum obrněné techniky Smržovka currently contains about 30 exhibits. Driving demonstrations and reenactments of combat actions take place on its grounds, which cover around 1.5 hectares. The Muzeum panenek Smržovka features an exhibition of 200 German, Russian, Spanish and Czech dolls, as well as other toys.

The Church of St. Michael the Archangel is also part of the town’s cultural character: it is a late Baroque landmark for the surrounding area and is considered an important historic building in the Jablonec region. It is open for individual visits during major town events. Another cultural tradition has survived to this day: costume jewelry and glassware are traditionally made in Smržovka.
