Černý Důl lies at the foot of Černá hora, in the valley of the Čistá stream. The town’s origins are connected with the beginnings of ore mining in the Krkonoše Mountains; the beginnings of iron ore mining in the valley around the Čistá are recorded as early as 1383. Limestone quarrying is another local theme, featured on an educational trail with historic kilns, an old quarry and information about processing. The town also has traces of its church and local history, a viewpoint, and options for winter and cycling trips.

Mining History, Church and Stations of the Cross

The Kostel svatého Michaela is an oriented Roman Catholic subsidiary church and was formerly a parish church. It belongs to the Janské Lázně parish and has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 3 May 1958. The historic Stations of the Cross in Černý Důl date from 1842. They comprise 14 stone chapels and a landscaped park by the church. Together, the church and Stations of the Cross bring religious buildings together with a clearly stated date and a protected monument in the townscape.

The Muzea Podzemí Krkonoš also explores the history of the area. Its permanent exhibitions and exhibition spaces are in the basement of the Černý Důl municipal office building. The Černý Důl Ski Area offers wide, easy-to-follow slopes with gentle gradients and two chairlifts. It also has the largest learning area in the SkiResort.
