From Panske Pole, the Opevnění Rokytnicka educational trail leads to Czechoslovak fortifications; you can also join the Jiráskova horská cesta here. This offers two distinct options for planning your excursions: a themed trail between Panské Pole and Anenský vrch, or a clearly defined section of the Jiráskova. The ANNA observation tower and Hanička Fortress further explore the themes of landscape and fortification history.
Educational trail and fortification history
The Opevnění Rokytnicka educational trail has fourteen information panels. It leads to Czechoslovak fortifications built along the ridges of the Orlické Mountains between 1936 and 1938. The trail follows the red hiking trail markers between Panské Pole and Anenský vrch. It therefore combines a specific route with a historical theme: the fortifications and the period in which they were built are the focus, not just the hiking itself.
Another fortification from this period is Hanička Artillery Fortress. It was also built between 1936 and 1938 as part of Czechoslovakia’s border defences. On a tour, you visit the museum and pass through underground corridors beneath the individual fortress structures. The R-S-74 structure, an infantry block of the heavy fortifications, is also located in the cadastral area of Panské Pole and is listed as a cultural monument.
Anenský vrch and the ANNA observation tower
The ANNA observation tower stands on Anenský vrch, at an elevation of 991 metres above sea level. The tower itself is nearly 17 metres tall, offers views in every direction and is freely accessible. The two figures therefore describe different things: 991 metres is the mountain’s elevation above sea level, while nearly 17 metres is the tower’s height. Since the educational trail runs between Panské Pole and Anenský vrch, you can combine its historical theme with a visit to this viewpoint.
Hiking trails and access to the fortress
The described section of the Jiráskova horská cesta is 12 kilometres long and runs from Mezivrší via Panské Pole (Hanička) to Rokytnice. You can join the route at Panské Pole. When planning, note that the 12-kilometre distance refers to the entire section described, from Mezivrší to Rokytnice. It does not refer solely to the distance from the point where you join the trail at Panské Pole.
The best way to reach the Hanička Museum is via the red hiking trail along the ridge of the Orlické Mountains. Above the settlement of Panské Pole–Hanička, a spur branches off this trail and leads directly to the museum grounds. The access route from a car park to the fortress also follows the red hiking trail, in the direction of Anenský vrch and through the Orlické hory Protected Landscape Area. The route is therefore tied to specific landmarks; the car park is not identified in more detail in the route description. As signs and trail conditions may change, check the latest information before setting out.
