Zdobnice lies in the valley of the river of the same name in the Orlické Mountains, between the Říčky and Deštné ski resorts. Most of the municipality lies within the Orlické Mountains Protected Landscape Area and has a distinctly recreation-focused character. There are several options to consider when planning your trip: protected moorland and meadows, mountain bike trails, winter activities and historic religious buildings. Depending on what interests you, different activities and practical considerations may take priority.
Moorland, Mountain Meadows and Walks
The Kačerov Nature Reserve in the municipality of Zdobnice protects wet meadows, transitional mires, springs and mountain meadows. These habitats are home to rare and endangered species. The area is open to visitors, but entering the moorland and spring areas is not recommended.
The U Kunštátské kaple Natural Monument protects a ridge bog with notable flora in the Orlické Mountains. You can view it from the red-marked ridge trail without entering the protected area. This lets you include the viewpoint in your plans while also following visitor guidance.
Even outside the main season, the countryside around Zdobnice is ideal for walks and mushroom picking. Hiking and cycling are also considered suitable activities. A strong spring rises in Malá Zdobnice; its water is believed to have healing properties. If you are relying on this, check local conditions in advance.
Singletrack and Cycling
Singletrack Zdobnice comprises a network of more than ten kilometres of mountain bike trails ridden in one direction. The main trailhead is at the fire pond in Zdobnice. The trailhead has a practice trail, a pump track, a bicycle service station and a charging station for electric bikes. The facilities therefore include both a practice area and specific service and charging options.
Trail conditions and access rules may vary by season. If you are planning a ride, check the latest conditions and the availability of facilities at the trailhead before travelling.
Winter Days: Cross-Country Skiing and Downhill Skiing
A point about 200 metres above Zdobnice Church, on a yellow-marked hiking trail, is considered a suitable starting point for the cross-country ski loop. The location is approximate and provides a guide for planning access.
The main slope at Ski Centrum Zdobnice regularly offers evening skiing. Times vary by season and may change, so check the latest information before making plans. The slope is 100 metres long, moderately steep and equipped with a rope tow. It is suitable for learning the basics of skiing and snowboarding.
Cross-country and downhill skiing can be planned according to different criteria: for cross-country skiing, the approximate starting point matters; at Ski Centrum, the slope length, gradient and rope tow are practical points of reference.
Churches, Chapels and Local History
The Kunštát Chapel, also known as the Chapel of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, was built in Zdobnice in 1671. The Church of the Good Shepherd was consecrated in 1789; the Chapel of Saint Anne was built in 1838. From the Chapel of Saint Anne, you can see across the whole Zdobnice Valley.
When to Visit and How to Find Accommodation
When looking for a hotel in Zdobnice, it helps to decide first when to travel and what you want to focus on. Singletrack conditions and access vary by season; for evening skiing, it is worth checking the times. Choose your dates based on the activity that matters most during your stay.
