The neoclassical Church of St. Philip and St. James stands on an open hilltop site above the road from Rokytnice v Orlických horách to Zdobnice. It occupies the site of a wooden church dating from 1621. That year dates the wooden predecessor, not the construction of the neoclassical church.
Church and cemetery
The cemetery in Nebeská Rybná was established beside the original church in 1656. Its circular, unenclosed layout gives the place a distinctive feature alongside its architectural history. The year 1656 dates the cemetery, while 1621 refers to the wooden predecessor of the church. The dates therefore mark two different historical milestones and help avoid reading them as two construction dates for the present-day church.
Terrain, settlement pattern and lime trees
Nebeská Rybná lies on a hill between the Zdobnice and Říčka streams and is considered a small clustered settlement. The term describes a grouped settlement pattern: the elevated location describes the terrain, while “clustered settlement” describes the type of settlement. If the character of the place matters to your travel plans, this classification offers a specific point of reference.
A protected group of two lime trees is named “Lípy u křížku na Nebeské Rybné”. It is located by a cross near house no. 51 in Nebeská Rybná; the protected area has a radius of 13 metres. The Czech name refers to the lime trees and the cross, the house number pinpoints the location, and the radius describes the extent of the protected area. As a theme to explore, this group of trees complements the architectural history with a clearly identified natural feature: it represents the landscape perspective, while the church and cemetery highlight local history.
Hiking trails with different focuses
A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Nebeská Rybná via Rokytnice v Orlických horách to Žamberk. Before setting out, check the current trail markings on site. A description of hiking route 79, “To Churches and Chapels around Zdobnice and Říčky,” published in 2023, also passes through Nebeská Rybná. The two trail descriptions have different focuses: the yellow trail lists a sequence of places, while route 79 is framed around the theme of churches and chapels. Rokytnice features in two roles: as a reference point for the road above the church and as a stop along the yellow trail. You can choose whether to follow a named sequence of places or a cultural-historical hiking theme.
Former football golf
The former FotbalPark Nebeská Rybná was a football golf course of about 2.5 hectares, with 18 holes made from natural materials such as wood and stone. As of 1 January 2026, the golf course in Nebeská Rybná no longer exists.
