The Planetary Path gives your stay in Záměl a specific excursion focus: it is approximately six kilometres long and leads from an inn on the edge of the village via the Panna Marie Bolestná forest spring to Potštejn. The Zámělský borek Nature Reserve and distinctive landmarks of local history add to the experience. Visitors wishing to combine nature, activity and culture will find several clearly distinct themes to help plan their trip.

Trails and Landscape

The Planetary Path was established in 2011. From an inn on the edge of Záměl, it leads via the Panna Marie Bolestná forest spring to Potštejn and continues along an asphalt road to the Nad Merklovicemi trail junction. The route therefore has named waypoints from the spring to a section beyond Potštejn.

The approximate length of six kilometres is a guide for planning your day. As trail conditions may change, check the current route in advance. The specifically noted asphalt section to Nad Merklovicemi provides concrete information about the surface of part of the route.

The Zámělský borek Nature Reserve is near Záměl. Its habitats include thermophilous grasslands and woodland edges; several rare plant and animal species are also found there. The variety of habitat types gives the area a distinctive natural character: in addition to open grasslands, it also includes the transitions to the forest.

Culture and Local History

The former Hostinec u Karla IV. inn is the municipality’s only cultural monument. The entrance gate and the reed-thatched roof of the building have been repaired; the main room contains an original bread oven. This means the same monument brings together exterior features and an original element inside. For culturally minded travellers, these details offer specific points of interest in the building, beyond its designation as a cultural monument.

The Lípa vorařů is also part of the area’s history. It is associated with raft-building in the surrounding area and the transportation of rafts along the Orlice and the Labe rivers as far as Hamburg. This connection encompasses both the construction of the rafts and their subsequent route. The historical story thus extends from local raft-building along two rivers to its destination in Hamburg.

Another tradition is Putování ke Studánkám, which was revived in Záměl in 2003. It consists of a communal walk to the local springs on 1 May. If you would like to include this date in your travel plans, check that year’s programme. The custom thus offers a specific occasion with a fixed date and a communal character.

The Kostelík sv. Marka stands on Marek Hill; a figure of Hastrmanka Manka is located at a spring below the hill. The locations are clearly distinguished: the church is on the hill, while the figure is by the spring below it.

Getting There by Train

Záměl railway station is integrated into the regional IREDO transport system. There is no ticket office at the station; tickets for passengers are sold on the train. As station services may change, check current connections and ticketing rules before travelling. This gives you an overview of both the station’s integration into the system and where to buy tickets.
