Jetřichov brings together hiking trails to the Laudon Chapel and an extensive historic farm complex; a geological outcrop is also nearby. Landscape, local history and geology offer different focal points for a stay. The chapel and farm complex tell the story of the area’s architectural history, while the Jetřichovský písník, with its rock strata, offers a geological perspective on the surroundings.
Landscape and Location
The entire municipal area of Jetřichov lies within the Broumovsko Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Broumovsko). Geomorphologically, Jetřichov is in the Broumovská vrchovina highlands. The Stěnava flows through the northern part of the municipality, while the Jetřichovský potok forms its axis. The protected area therefore encompasses the municipality as a whole, while the two watercourses provide different points of reference within it.
Hiking Trails to the Laudon Chapel
The Laudon Chapel stands on a low hill above Jetřichov, in the Broumovská kotlina basin, and is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The approach offers views of the mountains bordering Broumovsko. A red-marked hiking trail leads to the chapel from the direction of Broumov. The Cesta Rájem leads to the remains of the chapel, which dates from the 18th century, and then descends to Jetřichov along a field track. The route crosses the main Broumov–Meziměstí road along the way, then continues to the upper end of Jetřichov.
Farmstead History and Bělidlo
Farm complex No. 56 is the only registered immovable cultural monument in Jetřichov. It comprises a dwelling house, a gate, a shed, a barn, a dower house and a bridge with a statue. The surviving agricultural buildings were constructed towards the end of the 18th century and later adapted for various purposes. The mix of residential and agricultural buildings, a gate and a bridge makes clear that the history of the complex is not tied to a single building.
A different story links agriculture and industry: the place known as Bělidlo originated as a farmstead; a small dye works was later established there. At the farm complex, the focus is on the surviving buildings and their later adaptation, whereas at Bělidlo it is on the change from farmstead to dye works. Together, they offer two different perspectives on local history.
Geology near Jetřichov
The Jetřichovský písník is an outcrop of weathered Triassic sandstone in a sand quarry near Jetřichov. Sandstone strata alternate there with layers of reddish bog iron ore. The geological theme is therefore different from that of the chapel and farm complex: here, the focus is on the rock material and its sequence. As sand is still being extracted, educational and study visits must be arranged with the quarry operator.
If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Jetřichov, you can decide whether your stay will focus mainly on the hiking trails and architectural history in the village, or also include a geological study visit.
