Visitors to Mezimestí can choose from different hiking routes as well as cultural and railway history. The 15.7-kilometre Okolo Meziměstí loop trail is of moderate difficulty, while the Vyhlídková hřebenovka po Javořích horách is described as a challenging hike. Churches, a lookout tower and railway history offer further points of interest. AQA LAND is another local option: the facility is for recreation, swimming, sports and relaxation.

Hiking: a loop trail or a challenging route?

The marked Okolo Meziměstí loop trail is 15.7 km long and of moderate difficulty. It starts in the town square on red- and blue-marked trails and crosses a railway crossing. Its length, difficulty rating and loop format offer clear guidance for planning a hike. The town square and railway crossing are also distinctive points along the described route.

The Vyhlídková hřebenovka po Javořích horách offers a different kind of hike. This challenging route starts at Meziměstí railway station, goes through Vižňov and continues to the ridge of the Javoří hory, making it quite different from the moderately difficult loop. When comparing hiking options, you can use these specific details as a guide: the loop’s length and difficulty rating, or the challenging nature of the other hike and its destination on the mountain ridge.

Views and churches in Meziměstí and Vižňov

Ruprechtický Špičák is located within Meziměstí. At 880 m, it is the highest point in the Náchodsko region and also has a lookout tower. The elevation gives a sense of the landmark’s regional significance, while the tower is a specific feature of the site.

Vižňov is a district of Meziměstí and a point of reference for several named attractions. It is home to the Baroque church Kostel sv. Anny, which belongs to the so-called Broumov Group of Churches. It has been protected as a national cultural monument since July 1, 2022. The Po stopách rodiny Walzelů educational trail was also established in Vižňov. The church and the trail represent different areas of interest: architectural and cultural history on the one hand, and a named educational trail on the other.

Another distinctive feature is the present-day Křížová cesta Vlasty Hampla. It features cast-iron panels from the late 19th century, mounted on wooden stands. Their material, age and mounting describe the specific design, distinguishing them from the Baroque church and the educational trail.

Railway and industrial history

Meziměstí railway station is a historically significant technical monument. The ČD Meziměstí station building on line 026 was constructed in 1875 in connection with the construction of the Choceň–Meziměstí–state border and Meziměstí–Broumov–state border at Otovice railway lines. The Meziměstí Railway Museum tells visitors about the history and circumstances surrounding the construction of the Choceň–Meziměstí line. The station is therefore a historical building, while the museum focuses on the history of a specific section of railway line.

Centrum Walzel also showcases industrial history: it is housed in the former textile factory of Josef Walzel and Sons in Meziměstí. The former factory was converted into a multifunctional commercial and entertainment centre. Its current use as Centrum Walzel and its origins as a textile factory are two distinct aspects of the site.
