Horicky combines distinctive architectural history with a viewpoint north of the town. Its main highlights are the Baroque Church of the Holy Spirit and Barunčina vyhlídka. The town also has a history as a summer spa resort, a medical heritage, and local culture featuring a festival and theater. These themes reveal different sides of Horicky and give you several starting points for planning your stay.
Church and Spa History
The Baroque Church of the Holy Spirit was built in 1714–1715 on the site of an earlier Gothic church. This sequence offers a clear introduction to the architectural history: the Gothic predecessor was followed by the Baroque building. The church, together with its bell tower and perimeter wall, is listed as a cultural monument. The interior contains notable tombstones. Thus, architectural history, the ensemble of protected buildings and historical details inside the church come together in one place.
In the 19th century, Horicky was a popular summer spa resort visited by many notable figures. Its medical heritage includes the famous bone-setter Antonín Pich, as well as the introduction of modern treatments for bone and joint conditions at the treatment facilities of MUDr. Alois Kutík and MUDr. Kašpar Rosa. Together with the church, this offers a look at two distinct strands of local history: sacred architecture and the historic connection between spa stays and medicine.
Route to Barunčina vyhlídka
A blue-marked trail leads from the marketplace in Horicky to Barunčina vyhlídka, about 700 meters away. The approximate distance gives you a clear idea of the walk to the viewpoint; check trail conditions locally. The viewpoint is at an elevation of 444 meters and has several benches where you can rest.
North of Horicky, Barunčina vyhlídka offers views of the Polish Table Mountains, the Náchodsko region, including Dobrošov and Hejšovina, Adršpašsko, the Orlické Mountains, Opočno and Česká Skalice. The excursion therefore offers two different scales: a short walk from the marketplace and a viewpoint overlooking numerous landscapes and places.
Festival and Theater
The traditional Hořičská pouť took place in Horicky from May 22 to 24, 2026. This edition featured a funfair with carousels and other attractions, as well as stalls selling fairground snacks and other treats. Unlike the church and landscape attractions, the pouť was tied to these specific dates.
The Mečov village theater develops its own productions together with local residents and professional actors. Performance dates vary, so before traveling, check whether a specific date is relevant to your plans.
Getting There
Horicky is accessible by bus; there is no rail connection. Before setting out, check the bus service that suits you, as transport options can change. This allows you to plan your journey separately from deciding whether to focus on the town's architectural and local history or the route to Barunčina vyhlídka.
