Pecka Castle was founded at the end of the 13th century on the rocky tip of a long ridge; parts of it have survived as a ruin. In Pecka, this early historical landmark meets buildings from the 18th century and marked trails through a varied landscape. You can choose different focuses for your stay: castle and local history, hiking or cycling.
Castle and local history
Two guided tours of Pecka Castle offer different perspectives. The historical Trasa A tour takes you through Kryštof Harant’s study and rooms devoted to the history of the castle and the town of Pecka. Harantovské sklepy includes wine and beer cellars, storerooms, the Veselka ballroom, a bath and a medieval torture chamber. The difference lies in the focus: Trasa A combines the study with the history of the castle and town, while Harantovské sklepy brings together cellars, storerooms and other interiors. You can choose the tour based on the subject that interests you most.
The town’s buildings also tell the story of later centuries. Pecka’s square is home to a plague column erected in 1720, topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary. The Baroque Church of St. Bartholomew was built between 1751 and 1753; its interior frescoes were painted by Václav Kramolín and date from 1756. Just over three decades separate the erection of the column from the construction of the church; the frescoes were added a few years after the church was completed.
Trails and outdoor activities
Hravá Homolka is a forest trail that leads from the reception at Pecka campsite, following a stream towards the forest. Ten stations offer sports, games and knowledge-based activities. This makes the trail a way to combine exercise with a variety of activities.
The 50-kilometre road cycling route “Do města kamenné krásy a na Zvičinu” starts and finishes at Pecka campsite. Hravá Homolka and the cycling route offer quite different experiences: one features activity stations along a forest trail, while the other is a measured road route.
Well-marked hiking trails wind through the varied landscape around Pecka, with its unspoilt nature and local sights. Far-reaching views stretch towards the Krkonoše Mountains, Kozákov, Zvičina and Hořické chlumy. Alongside the activities at Homolka and road cycling, you can also choose hikes focused on the landscape and views. Conditions on Hravá Homolka and the hiking trails may change; check the latest information before setting out on a specific trip.
Koupaliště & kempu Pecka has a natural swimming area with treated water. Check whether it is currently open before visiting.
