Kunice offers a range of ways to explore its historic buildings and museum, a protected quarry, and specifically named sports facilities. Berchtold Castle combines a sensitively restored historic property with its present-day use as a leisure complex with a hotel and restaurant. History and leisure therefore coexist here, without this amounting to a set visitor itinerary.
Berchtold Castle, Museum and Gothic Church
Guided tours of Berchtold Castle are scheduled for Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.; advance booking is required. Check the schedule before your visit, as times may change. The booking requirement is important for planning: do not count on taking a tour spontaneously without booking in advance.
The Kunice Municipal Museum is housed in the castle. Its topics include agriculture, forestry and hunting, as well as folk architecture. Alongside the historic building, it therefore also focuses on rural industries and architectural styles. The museum offers a different perspective from the Church of St. Mary Magdalene: it is Gothic, and its origins are dated to the fourth quarter of the 13th century. Visitors interested in culture and history will find a range of subjects here that can be explored individually.
Lom Chlum: Quarry and Protected Habitat
The Lom Chlum natural monument lies in the cadastral area of Dolní Lomnice u Kunic, within the municipality of Kunice. It is an abandoned, flooded quarry accessible via a tourist trail. Its conservation objectives include protecting a habitat for significant bird, reptile and amphibian fauna, as well as an important population of protected animal species. Two aspects are therefore central to understanding the site: the form of the abandoned quarry and the protection of its habitats and animal species.
Cycling enthusiasts also have a named route to explore: cycle route 0025 is called “Kunice–Šmejkalka”. This name is a specific reference point if you would like to find out more about the cycle route.
Sports Facilities in Kunice
The H+H Arena offers a different focus. It has two natural-grass football pitches and one third-generation artificial-turf football pitch. The facility is used for football tournaments and friendly matches between companies. Together with the Na Zámečku Sports Centre, it forms a sports and leisure complex in Kunice. This provides a clear alternative for visitors with an interest in sports rather than culture or nature: the focus here is on football pitches and the uses described above.
When choosing where to stay, you can start by deciding which focus suits you best. Berchtold Castle offers a historical connection and houses the municipal museum; St. Mary Magdalene makes its own contribution to architectural history. Lom Chlum combines an abandoned quarry with the protection of animal habitats, while the H+H Arena is dedicated to football and sports.
