Kolešov can be viewed from two perspectives: its local history goes back a long way, while the municipality’s territory is shaped by agriculture and includes individual landscape features. If you are interested in history and rural surroundings, the destination offers historical sites in the village as well as topics related to the wider municipal area. The distinction is important: the historical sites concern Kolešov itself, while the landscape features are found across the municipality.

Village History Across Several Eras

The first written mention of Kolešov dates from 1319; the form “villam feodalem Colessow” has been preserved. In 1623, Heřmen u Questenburku bought the village, making it part of the Nepomyšl estate. The year 1319 marks its early written mention, while 1623 marks its acquisition and incorporation into the estate. After the re-emigration of 1946–1947, properties and farms in Kolešov were occupied by Czechs from Volhynia.

These milestones span more than six centuries and cover different historical contexts: an early written mention, later incorporation into an estate, and changes following the re-emigration. Community life is part of the story, too. In the past, firefighters were active in village life and organized a posvícenská celebration and a ball; this tradition has continued to the present day. The festive tradition thus adds a cultural perspective on village life to the historical developments.

A More Recent Landmark on the Village Square

On March 28, 2012, four granite blocks weighing a total of 8.3 tonnes were installed in the middle of the village square. Compared with the widely spaced historical milestones, this is a precisely dated event in a public space. Kolešov’s history therefore includes both long-term developments and a single, more recent landmark on the village square.

Landscape in the Municipality

Intensive farming shapes the landscape within the municipality of Kolešov. This includes particularly large arable fields and several hop-growing areas. The Jesenicko Nature Park extends slightly into the municipal area at its southern edge. Babí doly is also located within the municipality and is a registered significant landscape feature: a pronounced valley depression with a diverse stand of woody vegetation.

The contrast helps put the landscape into context: fields and hop-growing areas represent large-scale agricultural use, while Babí doly is a pronounced valley depression with a stand of woody vegetation. The Jesenicko Nature Park extends only slightly into the area along the municipality’s southern edge. The landscape therefore encompasses more than agriculturally used land.
