A Neoclassical rectory with a granary and drying shed, the last remaining older half-timbered house, and ceramics fired in wood-burning kilns give Mutějovice a distinctive cultural character. At the same time, the town is a gateway to Džbán Nature Park. The town’s architectural history and trails in nature thus offer distinct points of interest.

Architectural heritage in the town

The Neoclassical rectory in Mutějovice includes a granary and a drying shed. House No. 37 on the northwestern edge of town offers a different architectural feature: it is the last example of older half-timbered architecture in the town. The complex of St. Procopius Church is a valuable ensemble of Baroque and Neoclassical monuments, as well as monuments dating from the 19th century. St. Wenceslas Church is also one of Mutějovice’s sights. Together, these buildings offer different starting points for a trip that may appeal to visitors interested not only in architectural styles but also in the different historical periods.

Ceramics as a craft

The Hrnčírna Mutějovice workshop fires Czech ceramics in wood-burning kilns. The Hrnčírna gallery sells traditional and experimental ceramics. Both the craft and the range of ceramic styles are therefore part of the town’s cultural character. For trip planning, this adds another facet to the historic buildings: instead of comparing only different architectural styles, you can also explore ceramics as a craft in its own right.

Gateway to Džbán Nature Park

In Džbán Nature Park, flatlands alternate with steep slopes covered in centuries-old beech trees. There are also ravines tens of metres deep, pale marl slopes and escarpments, hop gardens and ponds. The landscape ranges from open areas to striking landforms and also includes areas shaped by agriculture. If you want to combine nature experiences with culture, you can explore this regional variety as a distinct focus alongside the sights in town.

Hiking and cycling routes

The 6 km circular hike “Džbán pověstí a tajemství” leads from Mutějovice to Džbán Castle. The castle was probably built in the first half of the 13th century to protect a trade route that passed through the Vrata ravine below the castle. The route thus combines a specific distance with a destination whose recorded history is closely linked to the ravine.

The cycling route “Chmel Jsem Česal Já!” covers a different distance: it is 35 km long and ends at Mutějovice railway station. If you are choosing between hiking and cycling, you can compare the two routes as different options. In winter, cross-country ski trails are available around Mutějovice; this seasonal activity provides another option alongside the hiking and cycling routes.

Another hiking option is the educational trail to the Kounov stone rows. It is 4.3 km long, has 11 stops, and covers geology, botany, zoology, agriculture and forestry. Its starting point is at a railway crossing about 0.7 km from Mutějovice railway station, on the road to Kounov. Its length and subject matter make this educational trail a different choice from the circular hike to the castle.
