Dubno can be explored through two clearly defined themes: the habitats of MotĂ˝lĂ step Pichce and a local history brought to life through the villageâs name forms and chapel. More than 50 species of diurnal butterflies, the transition from steppe and forest-steppe habitats to wet meadows, and several dated building phases give the village a distinct character. There is also a footbridge over the KocĂĄba and traditional events in the outdoor swimming pool grounds. Dubno is especially well suited to travel plans that bring nature and local history together.
The natural area of Motýlà step Pichce
MotĂ˝lĂ step Pichce is a significant landscape feature on land belonging to the municipality of Dubno. The southern slope is home to a diverse range of steppe and forest-steppe habitats; at the bottom, these give way to wet meadows. More than 50 species of diurnal butterflies live in these habitats. Both the transitions between habitat types and the diversity of butterflies shape the areaâs natural character. If you choose Dubno for its landscape, you can take in the steppe as a whole, not just focus on the number of species. Walkers, cyclists and horse riders are welcome at MotĂ˝lĂ step Pichce; motocross is also permitted there.
The village name and early history
The village name appears in several historical forms: Duben in 1298, Dubna in 1390 and Dubno from 1555 onward. The 1298 mention appears in a confirmation by Bishop ĹehoĹ, confirming that the priest Vojslav in PĹĂbram was entitled to certain tithes. This places the early form of the name in a specific ecclesiastical and economic context, rather than leaving it as an isolated date.
The chapel: construction and renovation
The chapel in Dubno adds a precisely dated construction sequence to this history. Construction began and was completed in 1893; the interior fittings were finished in 1894. During a comprehensive renovation in 2008, the roof, including its structural framework, was renewed, the stained-glass windows were restored, and the exterior façade was finished in the style and colours of the original chapel. The construction, completion of the interior fittings and later renovation are therefore clearly distinct phases. Those interested in local architecture can learn more than just a single construction date: the details show which elements were later renewed or restored.
More recent structures and practical planning
The footbridge over the KocĂĄba was completed in autumn 2023. It provides a more recent point of reference alongside the chapelâs historical phases. The sports ground in Dubno can be reserved by SMS at +420 778 956 625.
Events in the outdoor swimming pool grounds
The traditional Childrenâs Day and the traditional PĂĄlenĂ ÄarodÄjnic festivalâthe burning of the witchesâare held in the outdoor swimming pool grounds. Dates may vary. If one of these events is a key reason for your visit, check the specific event date before planning your trip around it. In 2020, a building was also constructed in the outdoor swimming pool grounds to provide infrastructure for events held there.
Planning therefore depends on your main interest: the steppe and local history offer a place-specific theme, while a visit for a particular festival depends on its exact date.
